If anything it seems the Scots here are getting rrrrrrrrrrrrather touchy and defensive about it, which is kind of understandable as it's, as ever, a minuscule minority of cunts who spoil it for everyone.
Rowan started the thread, he's not exactly "pro scottish"

Shaggy, some of your comments come across a bit narrow and biased. The Old Firm games are a microcosm of something thats not even football related, thats been ingrained across generations, that comes more from Ireland than Edinburgh, Stirling, Inverness or Aberdeen. Its frowned upon as much there as everywhere else in the UK.

Of course there'll be defensiveness when you're lumping in a whole range of different issues under the one banner and passing it of as a relfection on a whole population. I can't stand the Old Firm, and to be categorised along with them is going to wind me up, and millions of others as well.

England fans or English people can't make comment or pass judgement on any other country's sporting fan behaviour, when the one country European police forces dread arriving at their tournaments or as club away fans are those from England.

Remember Belgium / Holland 2000 and the pitched battles in Charelroi? The riots after England v Germany Euro 96 (not to mention the anti scottish press prevalent througout the whole tournament), the England fans throwing bananas at one of their own?

    Lest we forget.

The sensationalist thread title is a bit ridiculous.
We're talking about a hand full of idiots here, not an entire nation.
Perhaps something more accurate would be appropriate.

The thread title itself sums up what I was saying.

At least the campaign to get the Scots to buy more fruit and veg appears to be working.

Nah, apparently the Emirates staff, when they were cleaning them off the pitch, noted that they'd been deep fried

                        This thread title is awful.

Obviously any racism in sport is not to be tolerated. But to claim the action of this one individual sums up a nation as the thread title suggests is offensive.

I have travelled with the Tartan army to Paris (McFadden game) a few years ago. There were easily 20,000 drunk scots in Paris, under the Eifel Tower who marched about 5 miles to the Parc des Princes. I have never experienced anything like it. The tartan army is mainly populated by supporters of the smaller clubs in Scotland, and the Highlands and Borders, as a support it is almost self policed, with the elder Tartan Army members keeping in check the younger scamps. 20,000 drunk scots away for three days I never once saw a sign of trouble and certainly no element of racism.

One thing you will not find in the Tartan Army is many supporters of Rangers and Celtic. In fact most Rangers supporters follow England (you will probably see more Union Jacks and George Crosses at a Rangers game than you will an England one, which they use as a way to wind up the Celtic support who proudly boast their Irish heritage. As Daniel 7 mentions in no way do the actions of supporters of the Old Firm in any way reflect the attitudes of the rest of the clubs. All other clubs despise the Old Firm. Links between trouble with Old Firm supporters and any actions of the Scotland support just do not exist.

I was actually on my way to Hampden, kilt on to see us play Ukraine I think when a Glaswegian Rnagers supporter came up to me and asked "who are youse playin today", It is ironic in many ways that the national stadium is in Glasgow when the majority of the support are traveling in from elsewhere.

I am not saying that the Tartan Army are all saints, however in my experience it is as affable a traveling support as you could find and I hope this one incident does not make people think that Racism is rife in Scotland and Scottish football.

Anyway as a multi cultural Scot who has sat in with England supporters and watched their cricket team, and supported that team I felt I should add my tuppence worth. The title of this thread made me want to read it. But I leave the thread not disgraced to be a Scot today in light of the actions of one individual, and in no way feeling that Scotland disgraced itself today. One person disgraced themselves today simple as that.

The one thing that brings everyone to this site is a love of Liverpool Football Club, a club with a very strong Scottish Heritage. Shankly, Dalglish, Hansen Souness et al. so the fact that a few Scots post on this thread should be respected. The reason I support Liverpool, simple - Kenny Dalglish.
