Shaggy, some of your comments come across a bit narrow and biased. The Old Firm games are a microcosm of something thats not even football related, thats been ingrained across generations, that comes more from Ireland than Edinburgh, Stirling, Inverness or Aberdeen. Its frowned upon as much there as everywhere else in the UK.
Of course there'll be defensiveness when you're lumping in a whole range of different issues under the one banner and passing it of as a relfection on a whole population. I can't stand the Old Firm, and to be categorised along with them is going to wind me up, and millions of others as well.
England fans or English people can't make comment or pass judgement on any other country's sporting fan behaviour, when the one country European police forces dread arriving at their tournaments or as club away fans are those from England.
Remember Belgium / Holland 2000 and the pitched battles in Charelroi? The riots after England v Germany Euro 96 (not to mention the anti scottish press prevalent througout the whole tournament), the England fans throwing bananas at one of their own?
Lest we forget.
