Doubtful that you'd find any Scottish football fans who care more about England getting beat than Scotland winning.

Do you support Man United when they play in Europe?

I ask again where's the prove of a banana?? When anything gets thrown on/near the pitch it's picked up given to the ref then handed to the fourth official. It's hardly a inconspicuous event. The lad got booed he didn't understand why cause he's a bit thick, he blamed racism. Also when he got subbed off he was given a warm round of applause.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be fair to the scots, he might have had that down his shorts/socks and just fancied a snack, no proof of it being thrown.

fair enough, Are those two commentators ex-players? I ask cause I was sitting a few rows back from them and a few brazil fans were getting pics with them.

I have no idea, but it wouldn't be surprising.

Shaggy, some of your comments come across a bit narrow and biased.
Alls I did was listed a sequence of facts. Large scale disorder at each of the recent Old Firm games, appalling behaviour at the darts and now banana chucking.

Remember Belgium / Holland 2000 and the pitched battles in Charelroi? The riots after England v Germany Euro 96 (not to mention the anti scottish press prevalent througout the whole tournament), the England fans throwing bananas at one of their own?

                    Lest we forget.

Why does it have to be some sort of point-scoring exercise?

A banana was today chucked at a black footballer. It's 2011. I think it's worthy of discussion/condemnation without having to resort to pissing contests.

Fair enough, but why are you bringing up dart and the old firm if your not scoring points?? What happened at West Ham V Milwall is far worse than has happened in any old firm. It's just the old firm play so much so it's on the news more. Also I am not trying to defend the old firm I ****ing hate both of them. Also Arsenal fans waving inflatable mobiles at Ashley Cole/Spurs with there Campbell gay songs is that not homophobia???? Yet nothings ever mentioned, hypocrisy again by England media and fans.

Simply cos there's been a series of instances of high-profile disorder in Scotland (or in today's case London), so much so they had Scottish politicians meeting police and other officials to try and sort it out! You go on like I should be ashamed for mentioning it.

Its not a pissing contest so much as you using separate incidents as a convenient one argument fits all damnation of a whole country, its ludicrous.

Darts fans acting like tits in Glasgow, Old Firm games that are barely related to the national side and their fans, and the erroneous actions of one supporter can't all be used as a critique of a country.

If a fan has done that, he'll be banned. In a group situation, and with a large volume of numbers, the law of averages suggest there's always going to be one **** who ruins it for everyone.

This statement "A minority as ever but **** me do those Scots love shaming themselves"
is objectionable. Yeah, we all love that. just the same as we as Liverpool fans revel in singing Munich songs at the Mancs. Ridiculous.

'Neymar had been booed by Scotland fans after a lengthy spell of treatment for a first half injury, but it is not certain who threw the banana as the fruit apparently came from a section of the ground largely populated by Brazilian supporters.'

Not condoning what has taken place nor am I looking to apportion blame elsewhere yet until we're all aware of the facts the title of the thread is extremely inflammatory and misguided.

If some of the more fervent English members of the forum who seem to be revelling in 'Banana Gate' - in lieu of all the facts - wish to start some sort of tab on English and Scottish naughtiness at games then be my guest.

I don't think Shaggy means it to come across as it has, and maybe I'm a touch sensitive to those kind of blanket statements, but I've heard those kind of superior sentiments so many times since I've lived in England. Winds me up.
