Not wishing to dampen this Scottish moral victory, but I'd imagine (well, it was reported..) that there was a huge amount of very unpleasant racism from the Scots directed at the English referee, but we seem to fair game?
This pretty much hate-filled attitude to us (supporting Germany or anyone when we play them etc) might explain Shaggy and others antagonistic stance, in fact I think he referred to it whe he compared you to Everton, and you don't exactly do it in a humorous way. There are many English fans that used to support you when you played, but have stopped after seeing the way you treat us and now even enjoy your failures... you make your bed.

I'll hold my hands up to being a supporter of anyone but England football wise. How could anyone really support a bunch of odious, over hyped, sensationalised under achievers like the England team? Terry, Cole, Lampard, Ferdinand - come on...
Its regional rivalry for me, nothing more. I used to take a lot of anti Scottish abuse when I moved to the North East, but felt a lot more at home on Merseyside because of the lack of affinity with England. They seem to like Scotland here, I alluded to that in an earlier post. Its good humoured.
Elsewhere not so much.
Anyway, the English have much the same relationship with France, Germany, Argentina, Australia, Wales, Ireland...
Its not just Scotland who relishes an English hand wringing failure.Last edited by Daniel 7; 30-03-11, 12:12 AM.

That's the best I've ever seen you write on here. It's flawless, spelling perfect.Originally posted by IN_RAFA_WE_TRUST View PostI've always liked England, watch them instead when Scotland play. Though recently gone a bit off them and international football.
You obviously have ditched that dodgy phone.
By the way, best post of this thread.
Are we winning?

Have to say I agree - I've put the last 2 games on and then not watched them at all - I cannot support Lampard, Terry etc and hate the whole flags-on-the car little (brain) Engerlander thing every World Cup/Euro. I'd find it a lot easier to go with the Welsh side of family, I think- that's a type of patriotism that isn't so repugnant.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostI'll hold my hands up to being a supporter of anyone but England football wise. Just not sure the Scots can be totally anti-English and then complain when they get a bit back?

It's in his front garden at 10.30 this morning - his PR people have advised him to go with the "cat and cardie" look that he wore when he saw off the BNP.Originally posted by Rudo View PostHe hasn't, no.
Although sources close to the controversial Mancunian suggest he's to hold a Press Conference this morning to explain his actions

There was no racism directed at the English officials, they were booed when they names were called out that was it. I support England when they get to the tournaments I didn't use to but since the South Africans won the world cup in 2007 it pissed me off how many New Zealanders, Aussies, Welsh, Irish and Scottish were supporting them. Every Africkans (is that what the white South Africans call themselves?) I have met is a ****ing arrogant racist dickhead. I'm sure there's a video of splitting image with a song called never met a nice South African. Also speaking of Racism my family mainly grew up in Wolverhampton and when my brother went to secondary school he was bullied by (British) Indians about being Scottish, mainly because one of the main leaders got picked on because he was wearing a turban from some of the white boys, so he picked on someone else that was different.I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06
Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt Helios is really applying it to all Scots but I think perhaps Scots underestimate the causal prejudice English people encounter there.
It's also possible English people overestimate it but that's a natural response to an environment where prejudice against you is more common than it is elsewhere..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
