I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

No doubt you'll come back with "inside the stadium" but we all know that's not the full picture where football-related violence is concerned.
Why do you keep bringing up the Old Firm?? What about West Ham V Milwall where there were something like 12 people stabbed and loads of arrests. Then last season there was some trouble at a Wolves game which was quite serious. Those 3 teams shouldn't of really been brought into the thread as they have nothing to do with some German chucking a banana, I take part responsibility for that but I was just proving a point.

          Or this:

A fan has described the violence that erupted after a Carling Cup match between Birmingham City and local rivals Aston Villa as "like a warzone".

Five people were arrested and 27 hurt after City fans invaded the pitch following their side's 2-1 victory.

Aston Villa fans responded by throwing a flare and ripping up plastic seats at City's St Andrews ground.

Villa fan Rob, from Cheltenham, told BBC 5 live his 11-year-old son was repeatedly spat at during the violence.

He said: "There was a lot of trouble before the game.

          "The scenes were really disgraceful.

"My 11-year-old son was spat at repeatedly and there was CS gas used against the police - we were told that by a lady officer on the way out of the ground.

          "It's a bit of a warzone really."

          'Dark ages'
A pub outside the ground and parked cars were also vandalised following the quarter-final game.

Supt Steve Graham, from West Midlands Police, said the violence was reminiscent of the 1980s heyday of football hooliganism.

"There are perhaps cops who have been in the job 25 or 30 years who went back to the future there - that's not the face of modern football," he said.

          McLeish "worried" after fan invasion
"Everyone was hoping that they would put on a showcase of football in the Second City and that it would be an example we could show around the world with pride."

The trouble came hours before the vote to decide if England will host the 2018 World Cup.

Birmingham City and the FA have said they are investigating the disorder.

The club described the violence as "disappointing" and said it was checking CCTV and witness statements sent to them by supporters.

"Anyone found guilty of any disorder will face stringent action," a spokesman said.

Manager Alex McLeish said the trouble threatened to bring English football "back to the dark ages" but said he did not think it would affect England's bid to host the World Cup.

Senior club officials met earlier on Thursday and said they planned to further discuss the disorder with Aston Villa, the council and the emergency services next week.

          'Mindless and inexcusable'
West Midlands Ambulance Service said casualties suffered head, leg and arm injuries and some needed hospital treatment.

Supt Graham said officers removed fans from the pitch within about 10 minutes of the game ending but said some "innocent parties" would have been injured outside the ground.

He described it as "mindless and inexcusable".

The FA said it "wholly condemned" the actions of those involved.

The last time Birmingham City and Aston Villa were allowed to play each other in an evening game was seven years ago.

Following clashes between supporters during the 2002-03 season, West Midlands Police insisted all future derbies be played on a Sunday lunchtime.

The Carling Cup draw led to that rule being waived for this game.

What's with the point-scoring and ultra-lame, invalid comparisons?

I haven't once defended or extolled the virtues of England fans

As for the comparisons with poxy trouble at Birmingham (a whole FIVE arrests outside the stadium compared to hundreds at each of the recent Old Firm games) and West Ham, it simply doesn't stand up. You pair can keep defending the Old Firm if you like, or trying to make crap comparisons. At least the others in this thread have condemned the Old Firm without excuses or heat-deflections.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

To be fair Shaggy, the list of shame you provided (you included DARTS!), in light of whats been proven, is looking pretty lame in itself.

The point is you're using a fiery regional derby as a means to categorise and portray all scottish people as disgraceful trouble-makers. I think the point Rudo and El Diego were making is that it happens everywhere, includung Ingerlund. It kind of defeats the point you were making earlier on.

Regional rivalries in Birmingham and London are no more valid a means to beat and lambast a nation as that in Glasgow.

I'm not defending the old firm at all, I am defending Scots in general. The fourth post down you started bringing up stuff irrelevant to the match, so it was you that started the comparisons Just admit you made a mistake by trying to smear the name of Scotland supporters before you knew all the facts.(the old firm supporters can do that all by themselves)

Anyway people were STABBED in the West Ham so saying it doesn't stand up is just a poor excuse of trying to excuse there behaviour.

I included the trouble at the darts because it was one of several high profile instances of crowd trouble at Scottish sporting events in recent weeks.

Thank you to Rudo and El Diego for pointing out that this stuff happens everywhere. The point is the trouble 'everywhere' isn't topical at the moment, unlike in Scotland.

Where did I "portray all Scottish people as disgraceful trouble makers"?

I really can't get over how indignant some Scots become when discussing trouble in Scotland. There's been dozens of threads over the years slating trouble-making English yobs, and rightly so. We have one condemning some Scottish hoolies and our Scotch comrades starts crying!

There were "at least TWO arrests"

The recent Old Firm games have seen between 140 odd - 200+ arrests, which is absolutely incredible. I've been caught up in trouble at games in this country and seen widespread disorder, only to later find out there were a handful of arrests. It is always the way that a small percentage of the trouble makers actually get nicked, so the levels of trouble that lead to hundreds of arrests is near unimaginable.

Rather than crying about it and trying to deflect attention, take it on the chin pal.

There wasn't two arrests at all, one of the guys I used to work with got banged up. Also if there was under 20 arrests that just shows **** policing, I think there was 2/3 pitch invasions during the match. Also what were the arrests for?? It can be quite easy to get arrested, I have been arrested once and I am quite sure that you have done things to be or been arrested yourself
