Patriotism is a mugs game. I haven't "supported" England for a year or so now after coming to the conclusion that being patriotic is absurd. It breeds hatred, it breeds ignorance, and its a form of blind faith based on what? The fact that you happen to be born within the same national boundaries as the 11 men on the pitch. Big deal. Whats more, you have no respect for half of those 11 men most of the time so why pull on the shirt and cheer aloud to celebrate their success?

Living in Wales for a number of years has shown me the ugly side of patriotism. A hatred for all things English is instilled at a very early age and whilst the majority of the time develops into nothing more than a little banter, there is always a bitter edge. A lot of the Celtic population are some of the most patriotic, and thats not a compliment.
