I think this discussion has gotten a little out of hand to be honest guys. Of course, everyone must realise that Everton are rivals of ours. But as Craig said a while ago now, there are different forms of rivalry - I should have qualified my original post by saying that Atletico aren't competitive rivals with Real. Let's say there are competitive rivals, historic rivals, and local rivals.
But I'm still really surprised at the shock some of you seem to exhibiting over this! Tevez did virtually the exact same thing only a couple of years ago. It happens in football!
I think the most important thing to come from all of this discussion, is that footballers do not have the same loyalties towards the club they play for as the fans of that club do. I mean it seems obvious. But when it's a player playing for YOUR club, you want to believe that he's different. Torres proved that ambition > loyalty 99% of the time. Reina would have moved on this summer too.
At the risk of turning this into another thread about Stevie G, when I think about this sort of thing it really does hit home how lucky we are to have him. He could have gone anywhere, but chose to stay, even though it meant he was less likely to win as many trophies... that's so ****ing rare now.
