Porto paid €3.9M for Falcao in the summer of 2009. 72 goals & 6 trophies later, he's gone for profit of €36M.
I remember Rafa was supposedly interested in buying Falco at some point.

Were we really that skint that we couldn't come up with €4m

That's not far off what City gave them for Aguero - Falcao isnt in Aguero's league yet, vastly over priced.

And summer of 2009 - yes we were skint - G&H's finest hour.

We signed Kyrgiakos in summer 2009 - for around £1.5m. That was all Rafa had to spend.

That's true - how is that possible though? Soto was signed when there was no money left in the pot

I think I've heard that said about every foreign player who's turned out to be anything. Can't all be true.

AEK Athens.......They owned us money after the Nemeth signing. We took Kyrgiakos instead of some money and paid them £1.5m extra.

Portsmouth.......Owned us money and couldn't pay them back so we took Johnson instead of money and paid them a few millions extra.

Aquilani........Roma owned us money after the Riise deal. They couldn't pay us any money so we took Aquilani instead and structured the deal so we had to pay most of the money later on.

We almost didn't pay anything that transfer window for Kyrgiakos and Aquilani.

we really should stop accepting IOUs as a method of payment

The only one that makes any sense is the Portsmouth one because they were in deep **** financially, the rest is bollocks. AEK was a loan for Nemeth so they'd have owed us barely anything. And Aquilani? They owed us about £2m for Riise so we had to spend £17m on one of their players? Come on man, good grief.

in fairness the aqua deal is majority performance / success / apperance based in payments.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.
