The situation really pisses me off and I hate the way it looks like hes acted but it might just be worthwhile letting him go and saving whatever we can out of this

I'd be pleased to get his wages off the books frankly
I was actually going to post earlier in this thread that surely there must be some lower Italian team interested in him who know that the only way they could get him ahead of Milan would be to outbid them. I was honestly thinking we could get a semi decent fee if that was the case.

Surely if we’re willing to let him go for no fee, then there must be some interest, then if he really wants to go home then he has to forgo any payoffs, even if that means putting in a transfer request.

    Am I missing something here?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

whoever want's to buy him wants it if possible on a free transfer......or they take him on loan and wear down his contract

So if we are willing to give up on any transfer fee, why the **** would we pay him £4m to **** off if his new club are going to pay him a full salary?

This thread is starting to piss me off, ha ha.

i am pissed off with the people who bought him, whoever negotiated a ****e loan deal, and this player for being a leach on the arse of our club.

No lower leaguer team could afford his wages or even half of his wages

That Corriere dello Sport report on Aquilani is exactly that - 1 report. Take it with a pinch of salt until confirmed by club/agent. #lfc

FWIW, if true I think it's mad. Aquilani is a good player. Liverpool wages clearly too high, but Rodgers could do worse than give him a go

Problem is ‪#AcMilan‬ seem to be only big suitor for Aquilani + after getting Montolivo in position to play hardball on fees. Want a bargain

@liame92 The theory (and I stress it's an unconfirmed report) is that LFC would save 3 times that by getting him off books.

Wrote a piece on Aquilani couple of months back. Good at #AcMilan this year, but club don't like spending 'needlessly' http://blogs.thescore.com/footyblog/...e-be-in-limbo/

I thought he was willing to take a pay cut though?

Sacrifices have to be made somewhere, either by him or any potential club. Surely we can't be bum ****ed from every direction, someone has to be willing to meet us half way?

Because thats how football contracts work

If LFC terminate his contract they have to agree a compensation amount

He has 2 years left on his contracts and earns £90-95K per week - which is £4-5 million per annum (which means a total of £8-10 million wages left on his contract)

We are negotiating to terminate his contract at a value of €4 million

If we got a fee for him then the pay off would be significantly lower and if Aquilani asked for a transfer he wouldnt even get one

Aquilani and his agent have been cute they've clearly played the system to engineer a move and maximise his pay off

He earns £90-95 K per week at LFC

I doubt a lower league club in Italy could afford to pay him even a third of that

How much of a pay-cut do you think he'd take?

I agree sacrifices have to be made, but clearly Aquilani/Milan and his agent have engineered this

We clearly have few options and this whilst unpalatable and infuriating seems to be one of the better options

At least we salvage something out of it (one years saved wages)

This will have to go down as one of the biggest **** ups this club has made. Along with H+G being allowed the front door keys and the Suarez thing.

no club wants to pay those wages hence all the loan agreements......i wonder how much of the wages milan were paying

Whilst I understand all of that, I think I’ll wait and see how it all pans out before I vent more frustration.

If we’re only saving on one years wages anyway, I’d keep him here and see what happens in 12 months. If he’s not willing to play and earn himself a transfer, let him rot for 12 months and see if he’s still so stubborn next year.

Maybe that’s why I’m an emotional fan and not a business man, but I’d be willing to take the risk.

Agree that this would make financial sense and may be the pill we have to swallow.

Nonetheless, if I were Brengun Rogers I'd be tempted to start pre-season training by congratulating Aqua on his appointment as Reserve Team Captain for the season and see if it focused him on doing a deal which might suit us in some small way.

The best (most sensible) thing to do would be just to release him and scrap these poxy pay-offs and compensation.

He ****ed up by signing for us, we ****ed up by signing him. It's been a massive **** up by all parties, let's just chalk it down to experience and have us all move on. We save £5m per year in wages and he can get himself a big fat signing-on fee somewhere.

Shame because as I player - from the 20 or 30 times I've seen him play - I think he's good. But LFC & Aquilani aren't meant to be so the sensible thing to do is just chalk it off and both move on.
