That was my point. Bringing on Carroll was fine, taking off the person who was actually putting in the kind of crosses that Carroll SHOULD benefit from, was silly.

However when empirically tested we know that Downing is and has been ****ing useless

So you have a point but both you and I know leaving Downing on would have made little to no difference

In fact we could have taken Downing off and put my mum on and it wouldnt have made too much difference

Downing infuriates me more than Carroll

I feel sorry for Carroll at times but with Downing I just feel out and out contempt

What annoyed me yesterday was seeing him jog off slowly, while having the ****ing cheek to mutter swear words under his breath. Sprint off FFS and stop complaining about being taken off after another **** performance.

Carroll looks short of match fitness and confidence, with most of his teammates unable to get the best out of him. He may never come good but the first 11 haven't ever consistently played to his strengths.

Downing is a coward imo

I'd have hated playing in the same side as him, not only does he not tackle but he doesnt show himself for possession and when he gets isthe totally abdicates responsibility by taking the easy option (giving it to a teammate and playing it safe) more often than not

People say hes not good enough and that might well be the case BUT he has the potential to be better than he is

IF he had some bottle and tried to take players on and put balls in then he'd be effective (as he has on the very odd occasion hes done this)

I think you're right Lecter but it still seemed strange to me as I thought he was looking ok in the first half. One of our better threats (not saying much). Made a few decent forward runs and put in two or three very dangerous crosses.

Of course, there was no-one anywhere near them but I did think it was odd to remove the player who had put in the best crosses when Carroll was coming on.

True but the odds are fairly low you have to admit, I mean Downing has started every league game but one this season and hasn't provided a single assist or scored a goal.

Yeah but it doesn't conclusively rule out the prospect of him scoring or assisting - has to happen at some point as it did vs Oldham.

Downing had put in a few crosses that looked perfect for Andy. So why take Downing off when you bring on Andy? Very odd.
