Sean, i agree that we should be challenging in europe, but untill we can beat stoke at home, etc... we need to consolidate our domestic situation and start having some consistency. this means having creativity and options in attack. other than bellamy we have no one who is willing to run with the ball and take men on.Originally posted by sean_lfc View PostI agree. If we are to be challenging on a European front, a Swansea player does not seem to me to be what we should be looking at.
downing needs a ****ing good slap and needs to man up and take some ****in responsibility for his piss poor efforts. he should be running past defenders and delivering crosses. its then up to the management to ensure that the wing play is backed up by other players getting into decent positions to make the most of the service. once we have a winger on the right [not kuyt or downing, ffs!!!] who can balance our play then it is up to the strikers and attacking midfielders to make sure they are there or there abouts. we cannot expect carroll to get on the end of everything against 2-3 defenders as there is no other ****er making the runs.
carrolls runs are a little naive, as he just goes and stands on the penalty spot, instead of standing well off, and drawing the defenders out. a static andy carroll is no ****in use to anyone. he knows where the winger needs to cross to, and that is the area he will attack once the ball is launched [assuming it will ever beat the first man].
does any of our team ever watch match of the day. you know the little area that hansen and shearer highlight... just get the ball into that area and let the big lad come steaming in, the defenders will quake.
can someone please forward this post to kenny

carroll was a panic buy; we then signed Downig purely on the basis of his stats at villa last season & to supply Carroll; there has been a terrible error in judgment on two counts & tbh a loss of say 25-30 million is the only way out of it, unless we are hppy being a 5-6th place club.
Unfortunatley there apppears to be 55million reasons why two wrongs dont make it right...............

I understand your concern baitman and I do agree to an extent, I just don't want us to be slipping into a mental frame of mind where it's okay to be getting the Downings, Adams, Hoilletts of the Premierleague. It makes me feel like we're Aston Villa, which we're not. But the table doesn't lie and the more we mentally agree that such players are 'what we need right now', I just don't think that the ambition is big enough. There are more than 20 countries we can choose from, yet we'd get someone from Blackburn, who are bottom of the table. It just doesn't seem right. I like Hoilett from what I've seen of him. But it seems the more this drags on, the more we buy British, the ****ter the team gets, the less flair we seem to have. I'm not saying this that or the other, but it's clear as crystal that the 60+million we've spent British isn't seemingly cutting the mustard. I'm not saying British is **** and foreign is good, but money-wise it's a different kettle of fish.
People often mention 'Well, he plays in the Premier league week in week out, so he won't take time bedding in', but it's a load of cockmunch. I'd rather have someone foreign who needs time bedding in but can actually play some decent technical football. At the end of the day, we need some more players, whether they be British or Foreign I couldn't give less a ****, but with the inflated prices paid for British 'talent', I don't think it would hurt to snoop around Europe, there are bound to be some decent players about for little money, if we're going to go bargain hunting. **** knows man. We're desperate for some flair players.
I'm rambling and I'm bored of the football we produce every other game and it's quite annoying and needs to be sorted out along with the tactics.

I really think Kenny needs to be looking at options all over Europe. It's as simple as that. Although he's the player/manager king, he's far exempt from criticism, he'd be the first to admit that. So let's just hope that we sort this **** out this transfer window, get some fresh blood into the team and give the others a kick up the arse, the manager included. We're like a scratched record, we get to the chorus, everyone's singing along, 2nd verse, it skips back to verse 1...

Unfortunately I don't watch all types of football and what I have seen on MOTD is good stuff, I'm not denying it. The thing that irks me is that the level of our players seems quite frankly dog**** and I'd take any one now, just like we seemed to do with Carroll (who I like, but it seemed a bit of a panic buy). This is what annoys me, we're so desperate, anyone who's fast, can beat a man will do. And that's more what I was getting at. The more this type of buying happens, the more it seems to me that we might be slipping down a slope of mediocrity...Originally posted by saj View PostHave you seen him play on more than one occasion?

Here's some contentious statements for you!
1 - The club you buy a player from is utterly irrelevant! Keegan came from Scunthorpe and went straight into the first team and was a revelation, scoring twice if my memory serves me correctly.
2 - I believe if Dalglish was planning to sign 10 players in this transfer window he would still say that he had no plans to sign anyone. Can't you remember when he re-joined the club, and H*****n had been whining about how the squad desperately needed strengthening, KK made it clear that he was happy with the existing squad and that he thought it didn't need strengthening... But then we go and sign Suarez....
3 - Although the Suarez signing sinks this point in spades, the January transfer window is not usually a good time to sign players as they have no time to bed in with their new club, and you can end up paying well over odds if the selling club thinks you are desperate.
Just the thoughts of a newbie... Take your potshots whenever you like

Well try watching him play before you reserve judgement! IMO, he could easily walk into any of the top four teams on current form. MOTD highlights didn't do him justice on Sunday - he tore Arsenal to bits but hardly any of it was shown. He's a good passer, is quick and lately has shown he has an end product (I don't know if that has always been the case). He would be an improvement on Downing as Downing is not fast with the ball and the only thing he can beat is a woman. He is that bad, I'd take Etherington over him.Originally posted by sean_lfc View PostUnfortunately I don't watch all types of football and what I have seen on MOTD is good stuff, I'm not denying it. If memory serves me correctly he had a good game against us at Anfield, and as you pointed out it wouldn't take much to improve upon Downing!
I don't get this "we shouldn't be buying from "Swansea" argument. Alot of top clubs of starting to take Rhodes seriously and he doesn't even play in the Premiership!

He did indeed. He is the only player who I have actually seen this season skin Enrique (he managed to do it a couple of times only though!).Originally posted by Keith View Post

And it's nonsense this don't buy from Swansea! They have some very good technically gifted players. Just think how much these players could improve when surrounded by better players. We got Charlie Adam from a relegated team and he didn't do too bad.
And a lot of people keep dismissing Scott Sinclair. He's a very good player and will probably get better. He's capable of getting more goals though from open play - 4 of 6 goals have been penalties. My kebab comes with chilli sauce

Thankfully John Henry won't accept mediocrity because Kenny's in charge unlike many of our fans.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostWhat I want to know is
When did between 5th and 7th become acceptable for Liverpool
Another thing I want to know is
How is Stewart Downing "out of his depth" when he's moved from one club challenging for 5th, 6th or 7th to another?
