Either way there's not much in it and we should have signed him.

I seriously doubt we would change our entire wage policy for Aguero or any other for that matter. We have a limit to what we can sustain as a club and silly wages like City is not an option.Originally posted by RoadEnd View PostIf we didn't have to pay the wages for Cole, Poulsen, Degen etc - we'd have plenty to pay Aguero.
These sort of things make me hope UEFA fair play rules will be implemented effectively (naive I know)

You bring him in and pay stupid wages, then what's to say other players wouldn't start kicking off demanding a pay-rise?

Gerrard and Suarez would be the first players deserving one the you would think, and all of sudden we are running an Real Madridsque kind of economy - without any guarentee of trophies.Originally posted by Reece View Post

Same hereOriginally posted by Neil Young View PostIs anyone else getting totally fed up of reading defeatist **** about our new players after one ****ing game? We bought ****, I wish we had Man City's players, I wish we had Man United's players, boo hoo hoo...
It takes away all the pleasure of reading the board.
And with that I'm offline for a couple of days...

And from the usual suspects. Well suspect really, and we all know who that is.
Ruining this website for me too lately

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Its not really that simple though, theres a reason why hardly anyone pays players 200k a week. Its not just one deal either, the next superstar you sign has to have similar, Suarez has to get similar on his next contract etc and before you know it wages are completely out of control. They can afford to just brush it off as nothing but we cant.Originally posted by RoadEnd View PostIf we didn't have to pay the wages for Cole, Poulsen, Degen etc - we'd have plenty to pay Aguero.
Man Utd dont even pay those sort of wages so im not sure why it's just assumed we could, im also not sure why its assumed he'd join us. Maybe he would have come here but equally maybe he didnt want to leave Atletico Madrid to join a club in a similar boat.

Aguero is good, really ****ing good. Player of the season easily if he doesn't get injured.
But at the end of the day, we're not being bankrolled by endless funds which kind of takes the fun out of it.
Liverpool Football Club is being run like a business with values not like a rich man's playtoy.
When a players signs for us it's because he genuinely wants to play for the club and not the ridiculous weekly wage.
Man City are everything that's wrong with football these days and, if that means not signing players like Aguero, then I'm glad we're not going down that road.

Sorry, but that's a bit of a 'red tinted view' imo, players sign for us because we're the biggest club in for them at the time usually, or we're one of a choice of clubs at that level, i don't see anyone turning down City or Chelsea to sign for us because 'they want to', it's like Bolton fans saying players sign for liverpool for the money....players we sign want to be here.....At Bolton!Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostAguero is good, really ****ing good. We are usually one of the biggest suiters but there have been so many examples in the past of players joining us because they genuinely want to play at Anfield and recently, for Kenny Dalglish. Weren't Arsenal in for Downing as well. Would have probably paid similar wages and could offer Champions League football. Man united for Charlie Adam?
My point was, the wages we offer are not comparatively head turning and therefore we still have a sense of romance with the game.

Hmmm, a couple of dubious examples you use there imo.Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostWe are usually one of the biggest suiters but there have been so many examples in the past of players joining us because they genuinely want to play at Anfield and recently, for Kenny Dalglish. Thing is...no top sought after player is going to turn City down for us because they prefer to play for lfc. imo. Not at the moment.
Fact is right now, we're not in the same league at them as far as how players percieve both clubs, it's taken as read that City are going to challenge for everything going forward, and that's also the attraction to many of these players imo, not just the cash.
If Bolton had paid Aguero 300 grand a week would he have signed for them ? course not, it's about the whole picture, and City have have a pretty picture to show right now.Last edited by Vermilion; 16-08-11, 10:15 AM.

Yeah I agree with this but that wasn't my point. Man city signing Aguero et all is not a natural progression, they've done nothing in the game to be able to attract these players apart from the fact they offer ridiculous wages. We're playing on our own level and this keeps a sense of sanity within the club. So if we do sign a player like Jose "one of the happiest days of my life" Enrique or Charlie Adam, they genuinely feel priveleged to be at the club and give it 100% and not because they are being overpaid.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostHmmm, a couple of dubious examples you use there imo.
