Old school ties? That suggests the blazers at the FA are all poshos, ex-public school, etc.Originally posted by Icon View PostHarry won't get the England job. He's too against the grain for the old school ties...
Maybe you're right but it's not how I pictured it. I didn't see them as that far up the social scale, more as a club of ambitious lower middle/working class boys made good, grammar school products perhaps, placemen who've worked their way up the bureaucratic hierarchy, overly proud of their position and not bothered about their impact on the game itself, smug Hodgsons who will never rock the boat, the slightly socially insecure who like deference from those they see as their subordinates, public recognition from their peers and are desperate for praise from their 'betters', defensive of their supposed 'achievements', distrustful of outsiders, youth, women and the modern world in general.
Like freemasons. And indeed just like Hodgson..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Everton manager David Moyes insists he has had no contact from Tottenham Hotspur and that he is happy at Goodison Park.
The 49-year-old is among the favourites to replace Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane, alongside Andre Villas-Boas.
Moyes told BBC Sport that if Everton could match his ambitions as a manager he was happy to stay on Merseyside.
"I hope to meet all my ambitions at Everton but you never know in this game," he said. "I've had no contact."
He added: "I'm ambitious and I want to try to win things and ideally I want to do that with Everton.
"We brought in two or three players in January and you could see the difference it made to the club, so we want to try and do that again.
"I told my chairman four weeks ago [that money was needed to compete] so for me my concentration is on getting Everton ready for the start of the season, and hopefully getting off to a better one than we've had in recent years.
"I've always been loyal and I will continue to be loyal to Everton - as long as they want me, I'm happy there."
