Surely those comments are what all teams/managers say and the reality of selling to a mega club is the same for all of them? What most managers/clubs mean by the phrase is that they aren't like teams in league one/two where survival (at least at their current level) is contingent on sales every year."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

You always seem to jump immediately to his defence when I criticise MartinezOriginally posted by dww View PostSurely those comments are what all teams/managers say and the reality of selling to a mega club is the same for all of them? Yes all managers have said it but it's still a stupid thing to say. In this particular case even more so. It's plainly obvious they will sell him to Chelsea by the weekend.
Coming out so brazenly in the press is only going to make him look a tit and antagonise the Everton fans (he frequently boils their piss like this).
I think he's a good manager but **** me he talks some ****.

I think I generally defend players and managers when people judge them by what I think are innocuous comments.
In generally I think people give far too much value to some sort of concept of 'losing face' in this sort of situation. All managers do exactly the same, Martinez is merely more loquacious than most. As with all other managers with this statement I think they are expressing a truth from there position - they aren't a selling club because they don't have to sell, but they know that if a bid above their valuation comes in they would be stupid not to accept."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

but anyway...
I listen to CityTalk driving in and out of work. They play loads of interviews with Martinez and Rodgers, so I probably hear more of it than you do.
Both talk nonsense but Martinez is definitely another level. I think if he was Liverpool manager, with the amount of nonsense he spouts, he'd drive everyone apoplectic within weeks
Remember Hodgson's quotes after that Everton match? Martinez is like that times ten. I understand backing and protecting your players in public, but he just takes it to ludicrous levels and makes himself look a bit silly.
Look forward to discussing this again with you around Christmas time

On a different note - if they don't sign a new CB (two if Stones goes) and someone more prone to scoring goals than Kone then I think Martinez will have a struggle on his hands and probably be sacked before the end of the season.
I do think there are a lot of parallels between Martinez and Rodgers. Both seem to have a real problem getting the defensive foundation in place for consistent performance."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

It gives me something to talk about on here!Originally posted by dww View PostThe Est conversation loop
Have you considered that listening to a radio station that repeats endless manager platitudes might be a bad idea?
If he gets sacked does that mean I have to cancel our December chat?Originally posted by dww View PostOn a different note - if they don't sign a new CB (two if Stones goes) and someone more prone to scoring goals than Kone then I think Martinez will have a struggle on his hands and probably be sacked before the end of the season.

Definitely a lot of similarities, it's quite freaky how similar they are really.
Take note Est this is textbook chat, some top, top posting and some epic bantz thrown in for good measure.

Just got a text from a bitter
He / they really want rid of Martinez. So far Lukaku, Deufelou and Pienaar all gone off with hamstring injuries in pre season. A pattern appearing from last season!
Apparently we have five players that are suffering with hamstring injuries
Hope he lasts the year and Warnock is brought in to keep them up
Go **** yourself

Chelsea transfer news: Everton fears grow over defender John Stones as bidding heads towards £30m mark
Premier League champions ready to make third bid for 21-year-old defender
Everton are growing increasingly concerned that they will fail to stop John Stones joining Chelsea, despite manager Roberto Martinez’s insistence that the central defender is not for sale.
Chelsea are preparing a third bid of around £30 million for Stones, despite Martinez repeating his desire to keep the 21-year-old at Goodison Park.
While Martinez is demonstrating a brave front, Everton insiders fear that the club will ultimately be forced to let Stones move to Stamford Bridge once Chelsea go over the £30 million mark.
Everton are already closing in on one senior central defender to join the club, with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk and Swansea City’s Big Ash Williams all among their targets.
It is also understood that Everton are looking at younger options, as they attempt to plan for the possibility of Stones leaving.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho last week refused to discuss his bid for Stones, despite previously expressing his admiration for the player. The Premier League champions have failed with offers of £20 million and £26 million, but remain hopeful a deal worth up to £34 million can be agreed.
As revealed by Telegraph Sport, talks are thought to have been held between Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck and his Everton counterpart Bill Kenwright about avoiding any more public spats over the matter.
Rio Ferdinand has told Stones that he should join his former club Manchester United, but that will not have any bearing on the player or Chelsea’s bid.
Contrary to Ferdinand’s claim that Stones would spend his time sitting on the substitutes’ bench at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have a clear career plan for the England international.
Should they succeed in their bid, then Chelsea will give Stones encouragement that he would make at least 30 appearances this season with the view to eventually succeeding captain John Terry.
Chelsea have already displayed their faith in Stones by making him their one big transfer target of the summer and believe he could be a key player for the next decade.
While Chelsea continue to track Stones, they are also hoping to finalise a deal to sign Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman.
Rahman is keen to move to Stamford Bridge as soon as possible, with Chelsea just needing to agree a fee with Augsburg for the £12 million-rated 21-year-old.
Should the Rahman deal fall apart, then Tottenham Hotspur will reject any approach from Chelsea for Danny Rose.
