It's positive. It's usually an affectionate term.
Other similar terms are flaquito (skinny one), gordita ( fat one), viejita (old one). They all basically mean "dear" but focus on a physical characteristic.

      Its cultural ignorance and arrogance

Is the rollin stones song posted above Racists ?

Negrita is a term of endearment ... Suarez was winding him up ... he was calling him his little sweet girl ....Negrita is never used with racist intent and it is not a racist word .. its still been used today over and over again by people of all colours in non english speaking countries with zero problems and zero people claiming its racist
Not opening a can of worms here but I thought even he admitted he used the word Negro not Negrita?

This annoyed me no end back then and still does today, I lived with a bunch of Latinos and Spanish people, All of them swore blindly it was in no way racist ... was he winding him up ?? yes ! was he being racist? no ... ****ing No !!! if anything all of the predominantly white people who only speak English and has never travelled to South or Central America are racist for wanting hin to only use words they way they use them, surely the most important thing is the intent. It was nonsense then and its nonsense now ... but Carra knows better to go up against this again because there are so many hyper sensitive people with mico level depth knowledge on just about everything, but find it very easy to judge people and issues on matters they have scant knowledge on.

negro/negra, negrito/negrita are the same. The latter extending to "little sweetie/cutie". Anyways, whatever God save our gracious Queen, long live our noble Queen

You think Suarez meant it affectionately?

                  Is that the context here?
                  Oh I don't know.

I still suspect this incident was not racist in nature but a wind up, negro also in spanish is never used the way it is used in English, Spanish can be quite a literal language,

Anyway ... All racism is bad, I can agree on that ... but hey News flash everybody racist and anybody who says they are not, is a liar and not to be trusted.

Suarez meant it as a piss take, using the words of affection for a small black girl.

No but nobody has ever used it in a racist way ... do you speak Spanish ? I am guesing you dont because if you did I would not have to explain that to you

He was winding him up .... weither its Negrita or Negro ... there is distinct cultural lack of knowledge of people claiming he is racist

I dont know what John Barnes position was on this issue but I am willing to bet it was a sensible one

Should put the laughing emoji in now ok

Answer me this was the Rollin Stones being Racist in there song / video posted above ?

The Football Association's report into the incident, released at the end of December 2011, stated that, after being tackled by the Uruguayan, Evra asked Suarez why he had kicked him, to which the forward replied in Spanish: "Because you are black."

When Evra challenged him to repeat the answer and said he would "punch him", Suarez said: "I don't speak to blacks."
                            Seems pretty conclusive to me.

Ergo, if you call someone who is a black, a small black girl.. you don't need me to fill in the gaps at the end of that sentence.

Nicey - yes, I appreciate what the word means in Spanish (god knows, it's been said enough times - even though it's not the word Suarez admitted to using).

The context is that he's insulting someone by referring to the colour their skin in England.

So whether you like it or not, there is a new context for the word.

Suarez and Evra were not having a nice kick about on a South American beach exchanging friendly banter.

They were in the middle of the most incendiary game in English football.

                              Context, as ever is everything.
                              Oh I don't know.
