During the whole time Rooney has remained professional and not once put Fergie, Moyes or the club down publically.
Agreed. This has fergie vengeance written all over it.

Sky sources understand Wayne Rooney is unhappy at Manchester United.

Sources close to Rooney claim the 27-year-old England international striker is "angry and confused" about his treatment by the club.

Reporter Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sports News: "Rooney believes he is at the peak of his career and has no intention of becoming a squad rotation player or by playing second fiddle to anyone at Old Trafford.

"He believes he has nothing left to prove after nine successful seasons - yet that is what is being suggested by reports in the media which have interpreted the club's statement as meaning he's currently on trial for the coming season.

"Since he's returned from the pre-season tour due to injury, Rooney has been in touch with the club and spoken to David Moyes on the phone - he is angry and confused at the way he's been treated."

Rooney has been linked with a transfer to both Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks and it is understood he is open to the idea of moving to London from the North West.

He also expects to be fit for the start of the new season despite flying home from Bangkok last week due to a hamstring problem.

Rooney has two years left on his current contract at Old Trafford but new chief executive Ed Woodward revealed at the weekend that an extension is not on United's agenda.

Woodward said: "No contract renewals are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary.

"Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not."

United manager David Moyes still sees Rooney as a key member of his squad, but he said at the weekend: "Overall, my thought on Wayne is, if for any reasons we had an injury to Robin van Persie, we'll need him.

"Wayne can play up on his own, he can play dropped in. It's going to be a time to see how I work with Wayne.

"Manchester United isn't about Wayne Rooney. Manchester United is about the team - the club.

"I won't allow Wayne Rooney to become more important than the football club and the football team, because that's the heart of it."

I agree too. Ferguson knew what he was doing. When has he ever voluntarily offered up info like that? "Alright (press) lads, Wayne's asked to leave!"

Didn't he have a massive barny with Moyesy when he left the bitters and they ended up in court or something?

If Suarez leaves he's about as close to a ready made replacement we could get IMO.

There's a couple of things that might work us. Firstly, he might want to live in Liverpool. He's not really the jetset glamorous type really, is he. Secondly, you get the feeling that Gerrard and Rooney have always wanted to play together. I really believe they would be brilliant together playing week in week out.

I would think the fact that he has played for Everton and Utd, his wages, the transfer fee, the lack of champions league, and the fact he is hated by the majority of the fanbase might swing it against him signing.

Haha nothing surprises me anymore in football

Well, the 'playing for another club' thing doesn't necessarily mean much these days.

His wages would be a problem, yes I agree.

Transfer fee would be from Suarez sale.

Lack of Champions League for one season. He could part of something good we're building here.

Lastly, I would support him 100% if he became a Liverpool player.

He's fat filth who's had his best days. Not welcome here, ever!

Still a decent player mind but he'll end up a contract disaster for someone in a couple of years.

They're obviously trying to force him out, preferably with him submitting a transfer request, while trying to maintain his sale value. We'll see how much Chelsea want him I guess. He's gone quite stale at its and a move would probably do him a lot if good, playing up front consistently. There is still a quality player in there.

Manchester United still confident of signing Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona

Manchester United believe the financial burden of sanctioning the £51.3 million purchase of Neymar and Lionel Messi’s renegotiated £17 million-a-year contract could force Barcelona to strike a deal for the sale of Cesc Fabregas.

Despite claims by Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova that Fabregas “wants to stay here” in the wake of United’s £26 million bid for the former Arsenal captain, the Premier League champions remain confident in their prospects of signing the player before the transfer deadline next month.

Having been identified by manager David Moyes as the priority target in attempts to reinforce the club’s midfield, United are prepared for a protracted battle in order to lure Fabregas back to England.

But with United already hopeful that the 26-year-old is keen to move to Old Trafford, the club’s confidence has been further fuelled by a belief that Barcelona are in a process of raising funds and reducing their wage bill *following the signing of Brazilian forward *Neymar and confirmation of Messi’s lucrative six-year contract, which was signed by the Argentine in February.
The Spanish champions, who banked £17 million from the *departure of Thiago Alcântara to Bayern Munich, have also waved through the cut-price £1.8  million sale of forward David Villa to Atlético Madrid.

Barcelona are also prepared to listen to offers for Chilean winger Alexis Sánchez, a £32 million buy from *Udinese in 2011, and the Dutch midfielder Ibrahim Afellay, who spent last season on loan at Schalke.

While Barcelona would prefer to keep Fabregas at the Nou Camp, United’s offer has yet to be rejected by the club. Coach Vilanova is keen to retain Fabregas and he claimed yesterday that the player has informed him of his desire to stay.

“I know he has received offers from other teams,” Vilanova said. “But Cesc has told me he wants to stay here. He has told me it is his dream to stay with Barcelona. He doesn’t want to go to other teams for money reasons or playing time. He knows there is competition for places here, but his decision is to stay. I am relaxed about the situation.”

However, senior figures at United believe that a deal can be struck with a player who has grown frustrated by his lack of action in Barcelona’s key fixtures. Although Moyes has been told that he will be backed with significant funds in the transfer market by the club’s owners, the Glazer family, United are prepared to be patient in their pursuit of Fabregas before considering an increased offer.

Vilanova’s press conference yesterday was a lively affair – he also claimed that his predecessor at the Nou Camp, Pep Guardiola, “wasn’t there for me” during his rehabilitation from salivary gland cancer earlier this year in New York, where Guardiola was taking a year-long sabbatical after leaving Barca at the end of the 2011-12 season.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell had suggested previously that *Guardiola had made little attempt to visit Vilanova in the United States, claims furiously contested by *Guardiola. But Vilanova reopened the feud yesterday. He said: “He visited me once in New York when I’d just arrived, but during my *recovery from the operation... I was there for two months and I didn’t see him. He’s my friend and I needed him, but he wasn’t there for me. I would have done things differently.”

Meanwhile, United have been forced to cool their interest in Everton’s Leighton Baines after all efforts to sign the left-back were resisted. United bid £10 million and were prepared to go higher, but Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is adamant Baines will not be sold.
