Radamel Falcao: Manchester United striker suffers new injury

Manchester United's Radamel Falcao has suffered a new injury but dismissed questions over his long-term fitness.

The striker, 28, is yet to complete a full game since joining United in September and will miss Saturday's trip to Arsenal with a calf problem.

"There are a lot of stories circulating that are pure speculation," he said.

"It detracts from the credibility of the media that there is so much speculation and that so many falsehoods have been written about it."

Falcao, on loan from Monaco, has scored one goal in five appearances for United.

"I feel well and I hope to come back to the pitch soon," said Colombia international Falcao, who missed the World Cup with a knee injury suffered in January.

"It is disappointing that I can't play, but I have to be calm and recover because that is important to help the team when I return to the games."

I'd laugh more if Daniel Sturridge wasn't crocked as well

For all the crap we give our committee (and they deserve most of it) they got Falcao and Remy spot on. Both players we desperately need(ed) but both players with absolutely shocking injury records.

You don't need FM knowlege to see see that. Obviously Monaco saw cheque-book waving Man Utd coming though. And for that we CAN laugh at them.

So our working hypothesis is that the transfer committee has a respectable true negative rate but a dissapointingly high false positive rate.

I think United took a similar gamble to that which we took with Andy Carroll in some ways. There were obvious negatives but given the time frame needed and the limited options you have to double down on your first choice. It is debatable whether our choice to forgoe injury woes to sign mentality ones with Ballotelli has been a good decision.

It seemed a bit of an unnecesary risk with United though, they didn't really need another CF, whereas we did, plus had a load of cash buring a hole in our pocket.

Edit: I suppose he was a replacement and paid for by Welbeck (and the Pea went too), but personally I still would have went for a lower risk player to cover for Rooney and Van Persie.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think a lot depends on your approach and something that was clear was that United needed to draw a line under the Moyes experiment. Which meant an attacking signing that showed intent to get back to the attack based intent of Fergusson. Welbeck had stagnated there and Hernández was never going to work as a van Gaal player. I'm not sure there was a lower risk player available to them now that they shop in the same market place that we have done for years.

Well I think ADM could have provided that and with the Dutch connection, RVP could have been disguised as a new signing, as a lot of people expected Van Gaal to build his team around him or at least get the best out of him.

I suppose with hindsight it’s easy to say this about Falcao, especially as LFC supporters we always look for reasons why United signings may fail, so we can then say ‘told you so’. Even at that though, despite out forward situation at the time, I didn’t want us taking the risk on Falcao, so am not overly surprised at how things have panned out so far.
