I misread that as "I know he likes marmite but..."

I thought that to be a pretty weird line in the sand for liking a person
    Football without Origi is nothing

A person can be a UTD supporter, a trump fan, or even a country music singer. I'll suffer it all. But you pick marmite over Vegemite, we're having some serious words.

They got there in the end. No way will another club find it easy to take him on.

Plenty will try I reckon, based on recent history for much less talented players (Goodwillie and one other I can't remember the name)

Maybe, but Goodwillie has really struggled to find a club, he plays in like the Norther Leagues now. I think the fact that Greenwood is fart higher profile will make this infinitely harder for him. How does any club appease its fan base when they employ a guy like him?

He won’t play in Europe. And it would certainly throw the cat amongst the pigeons if he were to get a game in Saudi.

I imagine it would be pretty easy for him to go to a saudi club. He would earn a packet and not be scorned* for abusing a woman.

                * by the law makers/regime rather than me saying every single person from Saudi Arabia would condone what he did.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Goodwillie is playing for Glasgow United in the third division of the West of Scotland Football League. He isn't making any money from playing at that level.

Not sure who's advising this lad?

' I did not do the things I was accused of, and in February I was cleared of all charges.'

                    ****ing hell.

Charges being dropped because the only witness wouldn't co-operate with the police investigation isn't the same as being cleared.

The Bitters are rooted to the bottom of the table and are in desperate need of goals........

The Utd statement also implies he was cleared, so is there a part of the story that we have not heard?

As Spud stated, he was cleared in the sense that the victim decided to stop pressing charged.

He was not cleared as in found innocent of any wrong doing.

Not being found guilty or not being convicted is a very different thing to being found innocent.

The audio recording of what he said to his partner are still out there as are the transcripts, along with the videos/pictures she took of her injuries.

A youthful mistake is getting badly drunk at your first house party and making a pass at your friend's hot mom.

Deciding to ignore when a woman says no to having sex with you and then informing her you want to have sex with her regardless of her objections and how it will not go well for her if she resists is not a "mistake".

That's abuse, that's breaking the law and that is showing you are in no way a man with any sort of moral compass and basic decency.

There are a number of words for men who do not take no for an answer and none of them sound like "made a mistake".

Worst thing in all of this in my eyes is that the victim has now been taught that coming forward about abuse is useless and given that she carried his child she now has her abuser in her life for as long as he and she live.

Hope the scrote gets hit by a bus and that a big chunk of whatever assets he has goes towards his partner so she can raise the child without Greenwood.

I fully understand and concur with the sentiment, but the released statements confuse me. Even United's official club statement says that he "Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged"...that's why I ask are we missing something, cos I thought the recordings/pictures were cut and dried?

Or are the club and player just applying a level of spin-doctoring to facilitate a future for him in the game, albeit most likely in a foreign league?

The club statement is equally baffling

The club added that after its internal investigation "the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged".

He was charged with 3 things; rape, assault and controlling & coercive behaviour - the last two things are firmly in the public domain.

As you say Jaco, charges being withdrawn isn’t the same thing as being cleared, and it also doesn’t seem correct for the club to say that he didn’t commit the offences when everyone has seen the evidence (at least for the latter two charges).

                                Further to Fivex's quote above, this is from the United CEO, Richard Arnold;

"While we were unable to access certain evidence for reasons we respect, the evidence we did collate led us to conclude that Mason did not commit the acts he was charged with. I am restricted as to what I can say for legal reasons, including the alleged victim's ongoing right to anonymity, but I am able to share the following with you which should give you some insight into the complexity of this case.

                                • The alleged victim requested the police to drop their investigation in April 2022.
                                • We were provided with alternative explanations for the audio recording, which was a short excerpt from a much longer recording, and for the images posted online.
                                • The alleged victim's family participated in the process and were given the opportunity to review and correct our factual findings."
