Sounds like Woy is planning his tried and trusted 9 defenders/1 striker approach for the Ukraine game. If you can defend, you're playing it seems which doesn't explain though why Chris f'n Smalling is apparently playing!!

This headline on a Paul Hayward article in The Telegraph:

Appointing Roy Hodgson rather than Pep Guardiola shows the FA are taking a longer-term approach
      Is laughable

As is the whole article really (even if I did skim read it).

No one will EVER convince me that Hodgson was a better option than Pep (regardless of whether Pep would have even taken the job etc).

Maybe he's slyly saying that in appointing Bodge the FA deliberately chose to give up on the prospect of making any progress in the short term.

        But I doubt it.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

i read a hilarious hodgson interview over the weekend, it was on my sky sports app so i was unable to copy it over

he just rambled on about nothing as usual - just amazing that it was real thought and not a piss take.

          Will try and find it

            here we go

            re James Milner

"We know what James will do," said Hodgson. "He isn't, and doesn't pretend to be, as exciting as some of the wingers we sometimes use these days.
good way to build up a players confidence. -

            and

"After a long period of time where I've not seen many wingers in the country, I'm now seeing lots of them. But we are going to need experience in Kiev. Milner is not a winger, but the qualities he brings could be very useful."
i've read this a few times and still not sure what point he is trying to make

so milner is not pretending to be an exciting winger, nor is he an exciting winger, but he intends to use him as a winger because despite not seeing many wingers for a number of years he has now seen lots, and Milner has some qualities

so i am guessing Milner is playing on the wing on tuesday?

How can it be a cup final when a draw is a good result for England? Bad enough he starts the cliched ****e that I hate relegation-threatened managers come out with.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

There was some very sloppy passes but being fair to them, they're away to a decent side who supposedly need the win and it's been a pretty effective away performance so far. I can't imagine Ukrainians are happy with their teams performance. Basically, international football is rubbish unless there are two top class teams playing and this one has none.
