Always wondered this about Icelandic names...
So, Gylfi is Sigurdsson, his father is Sigurd.
Let's say his dad, Sigurd is Gundersson, son of Gunder.
How do they track families across time? Since the surname of the children will be different than the parent (unless the parent has the same name as their own parent, for example Sigurd Sigurdsson), I am curious how family lineage is tracked. I could probably Google this, but I'm interested in your answer.
