A lot of money for someone like Dempsey. Would not be a bad purchase for around the 3 million mark but 7.5, we are over paying again.

I think the days of buying a player for ~£3m are gone, even (relatively) unknown players are going for £5m+ these days. Anyone with Premiership experience moving to a big club like us is going to cost more than that. (Unless there are extenuating circumstances)

His attraction lies in FSG possible desire to raise the club's profile in US but I'd never pay more for him than about 5m.

It is silly business if we pay more than that especially as we paid 10.4m for 21 year old Italian international.

I'm not overly concerned between 5m and 8m. I'm only concerned that we get it done quickly. Decent squad addition, brings goals and experience and 29? In this day and age there's another 4 good years in the guy, 2m a season? We waste that on youth players who never make the first team. I think if the deal is done NOW and it's marketed well for the US tour it will balance out financially to a no risk transfer.

I don't think we can dismiss the notion of say 100,000 Americans buying LFC Dempsey jerseys as being immaterial to the finances of any deal.

10-15 goals from him per season and we're laughing. I suppose people's only concern is whether he is actually good enough to do this for us. I haven't a clue. Total MOTD player as far as my knowledge of him goes.

The squad will be on the plane in a matter of hours. How desperate do you want us to look? And is he that popular in the US anyway ? I can't see him selling that many extra shirts tbh. Not fussed unless the price is right.

I am not sure that will ever happen.

American's are known for their sense of patriotism and if they decide to buy Dempsey's shirt it will be US shirt not so much Liverpool especially if they don't have affiliation with the club.
