An excellent post. Unfortunately it's far too sensible and intelligent for this forum. Not to worry, you'll have any dissenting view from that held by the inner cabal beaten out from you in double quick time.Originally posted by False9 View PostWe need a couple more Joe Allen types at the club, or some of the players in the squad to step up there game. I am always reminded of those United teams which had a bunch of very solid guys on the bench who seemed happy to stay at that club long term, contributing very little but when they were called upon they could contribute. Joe Allen is a perfect squad player, capable of very high level performance and usually solid at worse. I think a lot of people were quick to rush with opinion on him and have not really taken into account the disjointed nature of his career so far at Liverpool. When hes match fit, has had a run of games, hes right up there in my humble opinion. I hope he stays at the club for a very long time.
Please remember that Joe Allen is NO GOOD. If you follow that line you'll be very welcome on here. Otherwise you'll be patronised and scorned.
Welcome aboard anyway and please contribute more posts in a similar vein

I like Joe Allen. He's solid without being inspiring. Captain Boring. But boring is what you need some times. Just a bloke who is always around not kicking up much stink.
The comparison with those Utd sides stands up for me.*Except Michael, who died.

There are far more positive posts about Allen in the last few weeks than negative ones. What there has been is a minority that have had a different opinions and, particularly Lec, have discussed them in a very reasonable, and well thought through way. For the most part there has been good debate and discussion. And then there is you.... doing exactly what you falsely accuse others of doing. Stop moaning about other peoples opinions and actually engage in the debate about Allen's performances or don't. In which case don't bother posting in the thread.
Some people rate him, some people don't and some are in between. I don't care which camp anyone is in and neither should anyone else.

What I like about him a lot is, when he's match fit, he looks after than ball extremely well, bit like Moreno, does not do a lot of fancy stuff but gets the ball and gives it safely whilst moving the play on ever so slightly. The longer we keep the ball in a passage of play the more chance Hendo can suddenly play a ball over the shoulder of Sturridge or Coutinho can fire a thunderball into the top corner. Hes an awesome little player and he gets about the pitch quickly, harrying opposition players. I don't think its a case of either or with Lucas and Allen, they offer similar qualities but they are to me quite different players. I dont think we have seen the best out of Allen yet, I suspect he has another level in him and when Lucas comes back we may see a more attack minded player higher up the pitch.
It must be really tough for these players who become the anti flavour of the month, I know I have been guilty of only noticing bad passes of players who are supposedly out of form and being totally blind to the failings of more favourite players. I suspect we will have a player on our hands for the rest of the season and he could be as influential if not more as Jordan Henderson last season.Anybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. My opinion changes often on this fella. Last season I was about the only 1 confident he could fill in for Hendo just fine. Look how that turned out.
He's been **** since, then lately come good again.
Would probably be worth keeping in the squad, however I have fears that he takes too long to get back up to speed after time out to be a truly valuable squad player.
He'd look class though playing regular in a mid table team. Think that would be the best thing for him. Just not sure about us.

There is something in this argument but it only really makes sense if he can stay fit. When he's been match fit he's actually been very good for us but that has really only been a couple of relatively short runs since he has been with us as far as I can recall. It's issues with keeping healthy that makes it hard for us to have him and Lucas in the squad at the same time rather than ability or suitability IMO.Originally posted by False9 View PostWe need a couple more Joe Allen types at the club, or some of the players in the squad to step up there game. I can't help it, he just winds me up. I have to bite my tongue when he gets barged off the ball or falls over, or does his stupid little lame run and gets pushed over by a normal sized player when he's putting a tackle in.
I admit it - its my issue. It all started with that miss against Everton. I just haven't been able to forgive him for it. Half the battle is admitting you have a problem I suppose.
I just hate seeing him play.

fair enough but using those successful united teams of the past as a benchmark, there were so many of there players over that time that on the face of it, looked utterly pants in patches only to come into their team and keep them chugging along when the inevitable injuries start to come. A lot of there performances I think is just being around long enough to work through bad patches. Most people in the game hold Joe Allen in high regard, its obvious he is a player with a lot of ability, he just lacked the run of the green for me. If he can stay fit for the rest of the season he is only going to get stronger and stronger. Same with Lucas, in a full season when we are fighting on 4 fronts we need two of every player, Lucas and Allen complement each other nicely as far as I am concearned, They are both capable of just running games and most of the time with the exception of games were they are just totally dominate, there good work goes un noticed, I think it was on the Redmen, that someone said, Allen is the guy who plays the good pass, just before the brilliant pass to set up the goal, you need that guy also. Anyways another player hitting form at the right time, happy days.Originally posted by dww View PostThere is something in this argument but it only really makes sense if he can stay fit. Good analysis. You definitely need a 'Joe Allen' pass before a 'Coutinho' pass otherwise the cogs are all over the place. One tit for another.
