Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

How normal was it for your wife to have to go to bed at 8pm and get up at 3am? I'm not criticising you if it's your choice, just don't presume that it's everyone else's. I've got a three month old (as well as a six year old and three year old) and I do the 'dream feed' at about 11pm, and do all the night duties (she normally sleeps through until 8am, thank God), because I know that isn't anything like as full on as my wife has to deal with during the day with all three plus school runs and so forth. I'm permanently knackered, and I don't have to train all week and run 10k every weekend like Allen does.
It's his choice how he involves himself in bringing up his kid, and if it impacts on his form then the manager will deal with it.

It's easy to judge players too soon but players that were written off early in the season have generally come back stronger. Enrique, Gerrard, Henderson, even Downing is really fighting for his place in the team now.
I've no doubt Joe Allen will keep fighting and probably surprise the odd few who have mis-judged him. I think Brendan is choosing players with the right mentality. I've no doubt that Allen has that.

Joe Allen is a good footballer and early in the season he was our best player so clearly has the skills to play at this level.
His form dipped later on but with the exception of Suarez most of our players have been very inconsistant.
He still needs more time to rest as BR played him non-stop and imo his confidence also has been shaken, which affected his game as he is trying to impress little too much.
He will bounce back.Last edited by Mostar; 09-01-13, 07:31 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Maybe we should give him more time to play in a more settled, experienced mid field rather than slate him as we have done with other players.Originally posted by Cormack74 View PostMaybe he's adequate as a squad player but to have paid £15m for a squaddie suggests we haven't learnt from the Downing/Henderson debacle of the previous year.
Im sure he'll be a totally different player then as he has showed glimpses of at the start of the season. Sure, I believe he's a little light weight and easily knocked off the ball at times but hey, look at Lucas when he first arrived and look how he's improved dramatically now.
I personally think that with a couple of quality players next season along with the up and coming talent we have in the squad at this time, I believe there's really exciting times ahead

Also the Olympics didn't help with this, he's a young player who played a full season last year, then the olympics and played a full first half of this season. A break could do him good.Originally posted by Mostar View PostJoe Allen is a good footballer and early in the season he was our best player so clearly has the skills to play at this level.

He will bounce back. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Some players can continue to perform well without any breaks like Suarez but he is definitely an exception.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Not aware I've ever slated him, if you look at any of my posts on any player it's not my style.
But I don't think he's especially good (I said so before he signed so it's not a knee jerk reaction to the last few weeks).
He might have a role to play in European games where he has more time on the ball so I'm sure he'll do a job if we progress in the EL.
But I don't believe he's worth £15m and I can't but wonder who we might have got in his place for that kind of outlay.

I wouldn't have said you slated him either, but from your definition I think Downing ought to count as an unflattering comparison
Neither he nor Hendo have hit the levels Allen showed in a run of games. I don't think we can say it was a poor value signing from what we've seen so far.Like blood on iron

I think Allen will return to being excellent when we have a more balanced side.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostNeither he nor Hendo have hit the levels Allen showed in a run of games. I don't think we can say it was a poor value signing from what we've seen so far.Was muß, das muß.

Don't think a humble "not especially good" can be treated as such

Allen hasn't been great but hopefully he can return to his Swansea/Early season form. He is better than he has showed for LFC but he has to start producing.... and quickly.
