I don't think that Fulham being crap is necessarily a problem it means he has a decent chance of being a regular and as a defender he'll like be kept busy.Originally posted by dww View PostI'm not sure is does. Fulham were terrible at the end of last season and I'm not sure I can see them improving massively over the summer. We also don't have anyone who would offer better right back cover.
If Kelly can stay fit he will be back up, Kelly of course has had injury problems but I think we could either play someone like Flanagan or McLaughlin if it was only a few games now and then. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Going back a few years there was a thread about Kelly and Wisdom and I said back then that Steven Caulker would be a great centre back (he was on loan to Bristol City at the time)
The point being was that Spurs had a structured loan plan for Caulker, season in League 1 with Yeovil, next season in the Championship with Bristol City then the season after on loan to Swansea in the PL.
The outcome was he had played almost 120 times before playing a game for Spurs (think he played 1 game for Spurs in that time)
Stepping up a level each season.
He's now established in the Spurs 1st team, a full international and has played 150 times.
Wisdom is 18 months younger and has played 20 games, all for Liverpool.
We should send him to Reading for a season, let him play 50 games at Centre Back (if that's where we see him long term) in a footballing side and see how he develops.
Another year playing 1 game in 4 or 5 for us will send him backwards with his developmentThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

He was doing very well up until he got injured in about February. He was only out for a few weeks but when he came back he didn't look as sharp and coupled with the fact he was sometimes played out of position due to injuries at FB and the fact the team as a whole didn't finish the season too well, he naturally had less of an impact.Originally posted by Big-Red-Ed View PostBit of a swerve but as someone else mentioned him, how is McLaughlin doing? I had heard only rave reviews about him previously and being from Norn Ireland I am intrigued.
In saying that, I missed a lot of the games towards the end of teh season, so if he did have any more stand out performances there is a fair chance I could have missed it.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Pretty sure it was reported around that time (maybe in a Inglethorpe interview) that if McLaughlin hadn't got injured he would have 'featured' in the 1st team.Originally posted by RedReet View PostHe was doing very well up until he got injured in about February. Now whether that meant played or just trained with who knows.

That would be a shame as injury also prevented him making his International debut and it’s also a bit of a worry. It’s a familiar story with our RB’s unfortunately, although thankfully Johnson seemed to be over his problems last year.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I've been saying for ages that we need to be doing stuff like this. If a player does well on loan a Championship club we get excited about how they have done and assume they're going to make it, before they spend the next year on the bench or in the reserves, Shelvey being an example. Also we wait until a player has had a season kicking around the fringes of the first team before we even consider loaning them out. We need to be actively looking at this kind of programme for a large number of the kids. IMO there should be about 4 or 5 players in the middle of such a system now (the likes of Shelvey, Sterling, Robinson, Flanagan and Wisdom)Originally posted by The Birdman View PostGoing back a few years there was a thread about Kelly and Wisdom and I said back then that Steven Caulker would be a great centre back (he was on loan to Bristol City at the time)

Does this work in general though. I'm not so sure that there are enough players generated by anyone in the PL for it to be clear. Lots of loan spells in lower divisions are a waste of time for all involved. The team that you go to has to a/ play the player and b/ not ruin them with coaching them to make poor decisions.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI've been saying for ages that we need to be doing stuff like this. A lot of players who have had loans that they credit with developing them (Beckham and Ferdinand are the two that come to mind) only played <10 games, being on loan for only part of a season. Which seems not so far from how we are treating Robinson.
I also think there is a wide variety of player personalities and positions to take into account.
All that said if we feel someone else would make good right back cover then a loan could be good for Wilson. Still not sure that we have that and if he will get games with us then I think we would be as good an environment to learn in as a loan team. We can always loan him out in January if he's not getting games."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
