Benteke is expected to finalise his move to Anfield on Wednesday and could be the Reds' last signing of the summer, although fresh speculation suggests they are also interested in Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne.

Even without any further additions, Toure believes Brendan Rodgers has built a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title this season.

"Benteke is a great player," Toure told the Liverpool Echo.

"It's much better to have him on my side than have to play against him.

"He's so strong and powerful - we all know about his qualities.

"He's a goalscorer but his mental strength is very important.

"I've played against some good strikers who are mentally weak.

"Benteke isn't weak, he stands up for himself. No matter what happens on he pitch, he will perform.

"The club has done some unbelievable business this summer and it's going to be a big season for us.

"I see so much talent in this squad. So much will be played in the mind.

"If we are strong mentally then I don't think anyone can beat us with the team the manager has built."
Opening day defeat in the bag now.

    Cheers Kolo

I love the fact that the article starts with Benteke could be our last signing of the summer although we could sign someone else.

          Lost the unbeaten record but;

We have an experienced leader and our best centre back at the back today, both of them had very strong performances minus the shambles of a goal.

It's no coincidence, these sort of qualities leadership and winning are something we need more of throughout the team, and normally something you only get with more established players.

I think Sahko is a leader
          And Kolo is both.

More of this could not hurt the team at all.

That's fair enough. Good luck to him.

              Kolo.

He deserves to stay with his recent performances. I think losing him from the dressing room will be a big miss also.

I agree. We've seen how damaging shedding leaders can be, not just with us but at places like United and Chelsea too. Even if he plays two games a season I'd keep him around.

Pity just said on the Matip thread he should be kept at the club for coaching

Maybe he feels he can still continue playing, even at a lower level.

Hopefully we'll be getting some more experienced winners in the door in the summer.

I find Toure an odd one, I would have go rid of him at the end of last season based on his performances then, but this season he has been quite good and if he were to have been offered another year from the summer I wouldn't have had a problem with that.

For some reason I found the way he headed that goal yesterday absolutely hilarious
