Arn..Offering 200K to a promising young talent with no experience in the top leagues is pure madness. I very much doubt we offered him 100K itself. My guess is somewhere between 60 to 80 K.

We have had a huge problem with inflated wage bill and I think FSG and our management is doing a good job of trying to make sure that wages are reasonable. Now blowing all of that out of the water by offering 200K to someone with no experience in the league makes no sense whatsoever.

200K will become the basis of negotiation for all future contracts if this happens. It is not as simple as you make it out to be. All of our players agents will be harassing Ayre the very next day for negotiating a new wage.

What happens if he does not live up to his billing then. Without wage increases that would be 9.6 million per year for the next four - five years. It would be a disaster of Carrollesque proportions, even greater.

I suppose it's a sliding scale of proptionality though. If you raise the bar at the top end you by logic have to at the bottom so the pretty decent squad player who would normally take £30k would expect £40k. The players on £20k, having seen everyone else get a raise, would expect one too. If you're going to throw caution to the wind with a pay structure and ONLY try to apply it to 5-6 players then you've got a pissed off dressing room, total lack of motivation and a ****load of money (because regardless of how anyone says it £14 million is a ****load of money) extra going out on wages.

The MLS allows for marque stuff like that but in the prem it would be a disaster. That's just my opinion though.

you can't ignore the bigger picture Arn. If HM is paid £200k then the manager has 10 player banging on his door asking for same deal. Then the cost is not £5.2m a year extra is wages but £50m
