Arn..Offering 200K to a promising young talent with no experience in the top leagues is pure madness. I very much doubt we offered him 100K itself. My guess is somewhere between 60 to 80 K.Originally posted by Arn View PostSay that we had offered HM £200k a week instead of what we may have offered £100k a week. I doubt that we offered him less than that. If we would have offered him a deal.
That means £5.2m more a year in wages.
Then you add say £50k more a week in wages to Suarez and Gerrard.
That means £5.2m.
Then we offer say four players £20k more a week in wages.
£4.1m
In total 14.5m.
I doubt very much that the club would be in any risk at all.
Then you add one top class player on big wages a season.
Leeds did what we did and payed out massive wages to average players. Even the goldfish got £40 a week.
We would only pay out massive wages to our top quality players.
We have had a huge problem with inflated wage bill and I think FSG and our management is doing a good job of trying to make sure that wages are reasonable. Now blowing all of that out of the water by offering 200K to someone with no experience in the league makes no sense whatsoever.
200K will become the basis of negotiation for all future contracts if this happens. It is not as simple as you make it out to be. All of our players agents will be harassing Ayre the very next day for negotiating a new wage.
What happens if he does not live up to his billing then. Without wage increases that would be 9.6 million per year for the next four - five years. It would be a disaster of Carrollesque proportions, even greater.

If you're going to throw caution to the wind with a pay structure and ONLY try to apply it to 5-6 players then you've got a pissed off dressing room, total lack of motivation and a ****load of money (because regardless of how anyone says it £14 million is a ****load of money) extra going out on wages.
The MLS allows for marque stuff like that but in the prem it would be a disaster. That's just my opinion though.

this guy has got goals (or at least the highest probability of bringing goals out of our new recruits). without him wheres the additional 20 goals going to come from?Originally posted by Marina View PostI don't get it. He's a high calibre footballer but why are some people ****ting themselves now that it looks like we missed out on him? We've already signed 4 players. And this one wasn't essential to the squad. It's not a big deal. Some of you are acting like this transfer is a personal affront.

We did alright last season without him on the goal front.

We will continue to struggle against the top clubs if we don't have a stronger starting XI.

you can't ignore the bigger picture Arn. If HM is paid £200k then the manager has 10 player banging on his door asking for same deal. Then the cost is not £5.2m a year extra is wages but £50mOriginally posted by Arn View PostSay that we had offered HM £200k a week instead of what we may have offered £100k a week. Surely you can see this?
