I think it's quite refreshing to be honest. We aren't being bullied into overpaying just because we are interested in a player. Obviously its always nice and exciting to bring new signings in, but over the last couple of seasons with Carroll, Downing, Allen, Borini we have paid over the odds. And it's good to see the club sorting that out.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostGod yes!
The fact we never matched Spurs offer is interesting. We've been burned before and it is still affecting us.The times they are a changin'.

As long as it is that reason and not because we don't have the funds.

To be honest if someone said choose a player for £30 million a month ago not many of us would have come up with this guy. I've reached the stage where I'm looking more at the players we have and how we're going to get more out of them. I just hope that the Rodgers dossier is all it's cracked up to be.Akloppalypse Now !

Or it was decided that what we bid made sense and bidding more didn't.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostGod yes!

Everything I hear about the club suggests decisions are carefully calculated. That seems professional to me..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Tottenham to beat Liverpool in race to sign Willian

Updated 49 minutes ago
Tottenham Hotspur look set to win the race to sign Willian after outbidding Liverpool for the Brazil winger.
Ahead of what would be a significant coup for Tottenham and another transfer setback for Liverpool, Anzhi Makhachkala have accepted an offer in the region of £30 million from the London club for Willian who has already travelled to the capital in readiness for a medical.
Liverpool thought they were in the box seat at the weekend but Tottenham’s intervention changed that and Willian now seems set to move to White Hart Lane.
Anzhi offered Liverpool the opportunity to match Tottenham’s bid but they refused to do so having determined that the asking price surpsassed their own valuation of the 25-year-old.
Should Willian complete his move to Tottenham, as expected, it will be the third time this summer that Liverpool have failed to land a major transfer target after they also missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa.

Hopefully we've got someone else lined up.Originally posted by Bender View PostLiverpool reportedly turned down the opportunity to match Spurs' offer for Willian. (Source: The Times)
This is not a love-in but you have got admire how Spurs have played things this summer. They are now in a position where it is largely irrelevant whether or not they keep their star player of last season - from a footballing perspective - and with a pretty basic stadium and no CL. A lot on here are saying that our best signing was keeping Suarez.
I really hope to God we've got someone else lined up. Failing that I hope that there is something wrong about how we go about transfer dealings that can be remedied for the future.

Thankfully we're further ahead in the evolutionary process now.One tit for another.

the wage bill at Spurs will be massive. Big fees demand big salaries. Too many new players. teams need stability not change to win the league.Originally posted by baronvonskidmark View PostHopefully we've got someone else lined up.
