    1. We need another attacking player from the "top drawer" so to speak - someone who, like Sturridge, Coutinho and Suarez, can singlehandedly win a tight game. Especially one who operates from a wide area as we don't seem to have that at the moment. I don't know if Willian is that player but the fact we were willing to go to E30m suggests we thought he was.

aus to another player. Its not as if they are in the Champions League or have been often. I dont understand their appeal - won nothing, average ground, so so fans. As a club they are completely meh.

Perhaps we could start a free shuttle helicopter service to get our players to and fro London easily.

don't get me wrong - i am frustrated and deflated as well - i just don't think it's always someone's fault and is black and white as a few people do.

could be a million reasons why something doesn't quite come off

a bit of a random example to compare - a friend is one of two directors/owners of a large company.

He was supposed to be interviewing someone in a senior role last friday but felt ill and contacted the candidate to tell them not to come in as he was ill and he would re arrange.

the candidate had already left and turned up anyway to have a quick chat with the other owner/director

the other director thinks this is great, because he's showed willing and initiative

my friend though thinks the opposite and is angry that the candidate ignored his instructions. He prob won't get the job now.

As i say it might not be too relevant to tranfsers but does show how differing factors can affect similar situations.

In other words, it's entirely misleading to claim that the commuting thing there calls into question the possibility location could be a significant issue here.

      As you say, probably agenda-driven.
aye didn't they have helicopters flying them all in?

@RobbieCarney80 He didn't choose. They chose him. Spurs had an offer accepted. Liverpool didn't.

Does he mean by the player wage wise, or with the club?

There could be loads of reasons, but for it to happen three times raises some questions. We are getting to a certain point in the deal and then finding it unable to close it. Just gets very frustrating, which is why I wish we had no tweets or coverage of any transfers until they were done and dusted.

I would say fee with the club.

Whatever, fair play! If they made a better offer, they should get the player. The only reason people feel "deflated" is because their egos feel a little bruised by losing a 3rd target. No one was really falling over themselves to land Willian the player. It was more about Willian the idea

If we haven't been able to agree a fee with the respective clubs then it's down to money and another club being able to afford them.
                  Are we winning?

Not too sure what to make of this. Are we right to stick a valuation on a player and not budge off that valuation or should we be more flexible when it comes to top transfers?

                      it is deflating but

Mkhitaryan - signed for runners up in Champions league, an up and coming side that will be challenging for top honours this season

Da Costa - Was settled in Atl.Madrid and with Falcao leaving probably fancied that this would be his chance to be the main man and used us to get a better contract

Willian - Spurs had been interested long before us.

Think it should be a little bit of both really. In this case, I think sticking to a valuation was probably apt. £30 million is an awful lot of money. Doesn't seem like a threshold at which we should really be "flexible." If we're talking about a less significant fee for a player who could really improve our side, then some flexibility with valuation, especially if there are other, perhaps more "attractive" clubs in the bidding mix, is definitely warranted.

same with the Costa transfer - whilst i was a little excited by the prospect i wasn't convinced he was worth the money.

Still, despite me trying my best to put a unbiased spin on things - it would be ****ing nice if we ****ing signed someone!

Still believe we're dodging a bullet by not getting him

I reckon we had a fee agreed with the club, Spurs came in with a better bid and we refused to match it, feeling that our initial agreement with Anzhi should have stood. Anzhi therefore did not allow us to meet with the player.

If so, good to see we won't be dicked about, but frustrating to see at the same time.

If Spurs get both Lamela and Willian, then losing Bale won't hurt them at all. They will start this season with a better team than that which they finished last season.

Apparently though, Roma have a bloke who has arrived in London to speak to three clubs about Lamela, Pjanic and Borriello. Could one of them be us? We do have some connections with Roma.

Don't know much about Pjanic or Borriello, apart from a quick Google which says that Pjanic is a playmaker and Borriello is a 31 year old striker. Don't seem what we are looking for. Anyway, the question is: are they any good/suitable for us?
