Former Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson is set to be named manager of English Championship side Blackpool.

Early this afternoon, the Seasiders sacked manager Paul Ince and it’s understood his assistant, former Dundee boss Alex Rae, will also be leaving the club.

That will mean a step up from the first-team dressing-room for Ferguson, who moved there from Birmingham City in 2011.

It’s understood he wants former Dundee United No 2 Malcolm Thomson as his assistant and his appointment is expected to be confirmed in the next day or two.

It will be interesting to see if he tries that one again. I'm all for black managers being given more of a chance but Ince is just ****. His problem.

Really seems to be the end of the road for Ince in English Football. Seems to always end the same way with players/staff falling out with him.

Horrible cunt Paul Ince. I remember seeing some jokey set up thing on some ****ty programme once. They tried to set up Paul Ince, with some workman spilling some paint or something on his snooker table. Of course, it was all fake non-staining etc, meant to just be a bit of joke kind of thing the cameras filmed. Ince of course wasn't pleased, and was on the verge of smashing this poor blokes head in. He wasn't interested in talking about getting it cleaned or whatever. Nice guy.

I know a lad up here - United fan - who says he saw Ince in a nightclub in his United 'heyday'. His story goes he went up to Ince, they got talking and an angry Ince threatened to fill him in unless he started calling him by his "proper name"....."it's The Guvnor to you, not 'Incey'".
