The more we **** about and haggle, the greater the chance of this happening IMO. We want to get value for money etc and that's fair enough but we aren't in the champs league, haven't been for in long time & aren't as high profile these days as other teams.... sometimes you do have to overpay to get who you want.

These loan deals over a season & obscure buys of potential young talent that may or may not come to pass... are costing big money of a period of time & take time to yield production if any. In a season that we genuinely have our best chance in years of breaking back into the top 4, if we 'really want' the player.. IMO we should be willing to overpay that little bit extra to get him (within reason of course).

More realistically Salah, Willian, Costa, Mkhitaryan et al are interested in joining us but hedge their bets to see if someone bigger/better comes in for them or their current club gives them a massive pay rise.

Apparently Chelsea came in with a bid that completely blows ours out of the water yesterday. Before you lot start saying "just pay the extra few million" it's a lot more than an extra few million. If Basel accept that then there's absolutely zero chance of Salah coming here because they aren't going to accept a bid much lower than their highest bid. The only thing in our favour is that Salah is concerned about his playing time at Chelsea and would prefer to come here as he'd play more.

If Basel (or any football club for that matter) get an offer of £12m for a player and whilst trying to negotiate, an offer comes in for £16m, you're going to accept the larger offer and use that as part of the negotiations. If Chelsea blow us out of the water - more fool them and unlucky Salah.

There should be a ceiling on loan players, especially those over 21 years old. If you exceed the limit, you cant buy other players
