That's what worries me about VAR if the standard of the world Cup was maintained you could have 3 or4 pens a game.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I also don't really understand where this pen = a booking thing comes from. Sometimes, sure it's an accidental handball or foul in the box which constitutes a pen, but does it always need to be a booking? I mean there are plenty of clumsy challenges outside of the box where free kicks are given without bookings. On VAR it seems everytime the decision is given, the offending player gets a mandatory yellow as well.

Is it going to take rampant penalties and sendings off to rewrite the rule 10 times to a point where no one can distinguish the basics anymore.

Next season you are going to get some freak results possibly in big games due to VAR. Just get the referring standard better.

I was massively for it but it just seems to be a bigger opportunity for inept/corrupt officials to do their thing.

This penalty pretty much helped Galatasaray win their league last weekend and this was given after a VAR check.

We had the grand final of the a league here yesterday and Sydney, who did win on penalties, scored a goal but was called offside. Replays showed it was onside but VAR said no too close stick to the original no goal decision. Ridiculous. The problem here is VAR don’t use the line across from the last defender. It’s the stupidest thing. If you’ve got the technology use it properly or it’s pointless.

I sometimes feel like they are protecting each other with their decisions.

VAR needs to be more transparent- we need to hear the person and they need to direct the ref as opposed to the ref interpreting it. Same as rugby

A good thread if you're interested in this sort of thing.
                        Oh I don't know.

The number that stands out is the very high £232m on commercial activities for City. Second highest to Utd. Given what we know about the size of the club and how relatively recent their success is, how have they managed to get this number so high? The FFP legality of this underpins everything the club does. It takes them from operating profitably and within the rules to trading at a loss. Also the fact that the ‘loan’ is not stated but has to be £1bn plus.

The source of this sponsorship is I guess why they keep getting investigated.

Chelsea aren’t much better with everything they have achieved underpinned by a £1bn ‘loan’.

That £232m figure is bent as ****

Take away the oil money and they're an utter non entity as commercial organisation. Who'd want to spend hundreds of millions sponsoring a club that struggle to sell out their own stadium on a regular basis.

Those inflated sponsorship deals will hopefully bring the whole house of cards down.

Creative accountancy can surely only take you so far.

My guess is that hubris will catch up with them. The Saudis definitely act like they can buy there way out of any situation. But now way are they legit pulling in £230m pa on sponsorship. It’s laughable.
