It’s definitely an abuse of power issue. The fact that he felt that behaviour was acceptable is 100% a problem and that is what is at the core of this. Acting in that way on a public stage means it is public interest and no longer between 2 people.

There is undoubtedly a troubling level of entitlement. I’m sure at its core there is an ex pro with a pretty average career (he finished at Hamilton Accoes) wanting to feel part of the win. He just happened to choose an in acceptable way to participate.

I also do think she is entitled to reflect upon how that made her feel and not respond perfectly instantly. To me, it is not a good look for him. And then he could have handled the aftermath more emphatically.

Again if that were to happen in any workplace in the country it’s 100% ending up with HR.
    Modifying post.

Im not happy to accept his apology, it's not my apology to accept. I think the problem is that people felt the need to chime in and not leave this between the two people involved to settle. Like the quotes i posted from both of them. It seemed to have been somewhat settled the next day "no big deal, heat of the moment thing" - until others got involved and fuelled the fire throwing his apology back in his face and its now exploded into an absolute farce and ruining what should've been a huge celebration for the country.

And everyone moves on, he accepts it wasn’t right and unequivocally apologises, she says no hard feelings and it’s maybe lessons learned all round. Instead he has a press conference, calls her a liar, threatens to sue people, says he the victim of a social assassination and basically tells everyone to go **** themselves, blowing the whole thing into the international front pages. It was that press conference that really did for him, made his position totally untenable and pissed off everyone with anything to do with women’s football. He voluntarily put the gun in his own mouth and yet people are here making arguments for his defence that even he couldn’t be arsed to stand behind.

Which seems to have been totally ignored by the white knights and women the world over? Obviously an apology was not what was wanted. They wanted him removed from his position and made an example of. So you've got someone that acknowledges they made a mistake and got carried away and apologises, thats then been backed into a corner to fight for his life. A fiery Spaniard at that. It's only going one way.
By the way, this isn’t actually what he said. That’s a very brief (and I’m sure accidentally generous) paraphrasing. And this was all after he had called people criticising him idiots.

"I made a mistake, for sure," Rubiales said in a video released to the media. "I have to accept it. In a moment of such emotion, without any bad intention or bad faith, what happened, happened, in a very spontaneous way. [There was] no bad faith from either side

"Here we saw it as something natural and normal. But on the outside it has caused a stir, because people have felt hurt by it, so I have to apologize; there's no alternative. I have to learn from this and understand that a president of an institution as important as the federation -- above all in ceremonies and that kind of thing -- should be more careful.

"There are also some things which I said where, within this context, I said it seemed like idiocy. On the inside, nobody had seen it as important, but on the outside they had. So I want to apologize to those people. I'm sure they'll have their reasons.
So, not quite as heart felt as you’ve been pretending.

People didn’t ignore his apology, they said it wasn’t a proper apology, including the Spanish prime minister. Then he held his **** you press conference. :candle:

              l.o.l.

Here we go, Ser Kenneth the White Knight rides in to give his unwanted opinion.

What patronising 'holier than thou' bull**** is he going to post now??

That paraphrased quote was from the article i posted. Its nothing to do with my opinion or whether it's heartfelt or not. It was an apology that was being forgotten when people here are saying "if he just apologised..." If you actually read posts properly before jumping on your white horse you'd have realised all this.

Again, the apology was ignored by people on here! Re-read the thread and who i was responding to - basic comprehension.
I know the apology wasn't accepted by others such as the PM, angry women and white knights the world over, who then took it upon themselves to make this a bigger deal than it initially was - and then you get his press conference digging in and telling everyone and anyone to **** right off and it turns into a circus. Ruining what should've been a celebration for the nation and a huge win for women's football. I said this multiple times Ser Kenneth.

Ser Kenneth the pseudo-intellectual, it's actually so true.

Sorry for being right and pointing out your cognitive failings. It must be frustrating.

I assume my disingenuous apology is the end of it and we can move on. (Did you see what I did there?)

Yup I did see what you did there Ser Kenneth, thus proving again that are you in fact, a pseudo-intellectual tampon

A tampon? So women’s hygiene is a pejorative now? Is that an incel thing?

Anyway, I’ve already filled in the gaps that your ‘anti-woke’ talking head missed out when telling you what to think about the incident. You can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.

Not disputing the opportunity to point score - but in terms of the actual issue I agree with the points Kenneth had made. Cutting through the middle here, there’s definitely an issue, right? The initial kiss cannot be swept under the carpet. The splitting into two tribes is ****ing inevitable these days, but seemingly just distracts from the actual issue.

It’s safe territory to argue the opposing POV on a male dominated forum - good luck taking it forwards in real life.

His apology was a non apology, he apologised if anyone was offended.

It was a ‘move on love’ apology, he needed to appreciate the situation and act accordingly. Do that and he isn’t having to… I dunno where we are now? Quadruple down.

The stuff with his mum is ****ing strange. Not sure where that ends, these are not the actions of a stable environment.
