So is the Sky still falling in?

We didn't improve the squad but neither did anyone else around us,with the exception of Chelsea(who we aren't really battling with) and possibly United and even they didn't address the most pressing issues in their squad, much like us signing Kono wouldn't have addressed the most pressing issues in our squad so it's still all to play for.

Lets carry on where we left off on Tuesday and **** West Brom.

True. But Sturridge and Coutinho were not playing and were a bit of a gamble and we did pay 17 million for Sakho who had only a year left and was not playing regularly.

whichever way you look at this there is a problem somewhere - probably when you have commercial guys negotiating football transfer deals. it might take 3 months to negotiate a 10m deal with dunkin donuts but football moves much quicker than that.

2.5 months on a football deal is an eternity.
Again from the outside looking in it does appear that the Salah deal was a case of trying to drive too hard a bargain

As you said it appears we spent weeks or even months trying to negotiate the deal only to have Chelsea come in with a higher bid. If you believe reports we then upped our bid but it was too late

To me each deal is different, you cant go into every deal with the same plan of attack. Some deals you will have to show some flexibility or compromise. Maybe we actually do this but from what we read in the press it doesn't appear that way

At times it appears we are too rigid in our approach. Whether that is down to the committees valuation of the players, the negotiating tactics or even the people negotiating I don't know but that is the impression I get

I don't agree with that, the teams around us that needed players did add to their squad, United and Everton, Tottenham didn't need any more players, quite the opposite. City are trouncing everyone and are posting huge losses and Chelsea are not around us but made good deals. I'll give you Arsenal though.

Did Everton not bring in a couple of players on loan, as did Arsenal???

City didn't really need to bring in players

So that's just us and Spuds that didn't buy anyone, the same Spuds who spent gazillions in the summer

theres a couple of ways to look at this but this is my view.

chelsea by signing matic and salah (zouma too) have stated their intent on pushing city all the way for the title. united signing mata have equally made their case to get into the top 4. they didnt need mata but that signing will make people stand up and take notice.

yes arsenal might 'only' have signed kallstrom but he is an experienced international player who will add something to their squad especially in ramseys absence.

city signed plenty in the summer and their squad is already the best in the league followed closely by spurs who signed a shed load of players too.

we could have and should have made at least one signing given how crap cissoko is, how lucas is out for 8 weeks and our reliance on 19 yr old raheem sterling.

we should have made at least one signing to push on for 4th.

                Arsenal signed Kallstrom didn't they???

How many of them brought in first team quality that will improve them,Chelsea and United.Thats it.

The status quo remains and its still ours to lose

Regardless of teams ahead of us,only United behind us improved ,our squad as it stood has already got more points than them,Everton and Spuds so nothing has changed in that regard,we can still be confident of beating all those teams to 4th

                      What nonsense

If you strengthen your squad and your opponent doesn't, doesn't that still add something to you as a whole???

I'm not advocating going out and buying someone just to fatten out the squad, but to just dismiss other signings as squad players and offering little or no improvement to those clubs as a whole is blinkered in the extreme

I disagree Everton improved their squad

Going to be sackings galore next week, Ayre is scum, City are a joke, they couldnt even get deals done with little Porto, Arsenal spent the whole window after Draxler and got a ****ty 31 year old on loan, Utd wanted about 5 players and got 1. Ouch.

I'm not breaking into a sweat that we haven't signed anyone likes its some of crime. Everton added a couple of players but lost a couple of players. Mancs desperately needed to add to the squad, Spurs have lost players and Arsenal missed out on a ton of targets. Only Mata will make any difference to make and even he can't plug all the holes in their team.

We've still got the best strike partnership in the league, we've got a ton of players to come back to fitness in the next few weeks and have continued winning games when we've not had Suarez/Sturridge/Coutinho/Gerrard. This nonsense of us having no depth is just a bit silly at times.

We're just on a downer from the excitement of a top player joining our ranks vanishing in an instant.

We're still a great team and for all we know, we might have agreements in place for top players to join us in the summer if we qualify for the CL.

Did we strengthen with signing Aspas and Alberto?

No we didn't but we added bulk to our squad. When squads are fit nobody signed anybody yesterday that will go into their starting 11's.

My main issue this window is not missing Kono but not even attempting to sign a full back or a DM,apparently.

But don't let me stop you all pissing and moaning about **** we can't change,We have what we have and its proved more than good enough so far.My opinion is that it will continue to do so.
