We won't fall for panic buys insists Rodgers despite late collapse of Remy deal

    Jul 27, 2014 22:30 By James Pearce

Reds pulled out of deal to sign Frenchman due to medical concerns

Brendan Rodgers insists there will be no panic buying as he searches for a new striker after Loic Remy's move to Liverpool FC collapsed .

The France international was expected to complete a £8.5million transfer from Queens Park Rangers after flying out to join Rodgers' squad on their pre-season tour of America.

However, the Reds pulled out of the deal at the eleventh hour due to medical concerns.

Liverpool FC have refused to comment on the reasons why but the ECHO understands there is no chance of the move being resurrected.

With Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini the club's only senior frontmen, the manager is considering alternative targets.

But the Reds are unlikely to renew their interest in Swansea City's Wilfried Bony having previously been put off by the £20million fee and the Ivorian's high wage demands.

“There are certain different areas where I want to bring in players, but they have to be the right type,” Rodgers said.

“There is money to spend, no question, but I won’t spend it for the sake of it.

“It has to be the right type. If that means I have to wait until January then that’s what I will do.

“The players at the moment are in great condition, they are working very well and very hard.

“I have seen the development in some of the young players but if the right ones become available we would like to do something because I still have a lot to do on that front. But if they’re not available, I will wait.”

"Loic is devastated. When we informed him the deal had collapsed he had a wee cry, I shed a wee tear too, we embraced and I sent him on his way. He's a wonderful human being."

That cant be true, otherwise we just look inept, as we should have had someone lined up in the months between that contract being signed and the world cup.

I hope we aren't waiting. As it is right now Lambert and Borini are the only backup to Sturridge which is bad enough but worse again if Borini is off.

Of course we may be trying to sign someone on the sly. My point was just countering the opinion that we don't need a replacement with the players we have got. Personally I think we should have tried to tie up Costa before Chelsea got their mitts on him, and Suarez leaving has wrong footed us completely.
Suarez is irreplaceable, but we know that we are looking for someone to help fill the void because as you said, we tried for Sanchez. And also, because our manager has said as much many times

But if that player isn't available (Reus, Ronaldo, Bale, Robben, Messi etc etc) then we won't waste money on someone for the sake of it

Appreciate that this means there will be a lot of sulking round these parts

Shaggy you should have ended with Rodgers whispering Awooga in his ear.

It's academic now but he shouldn't have been anywhere near the 7 shirt if he signed. Not fit to lace Kewells boots.

Smicer, Tanner, Nigel Clough and Robbie Keane would be turning in their mass grave.

Jimmy Carter and all! How was Loic supposed to live up to that.

                              Didn't Tanner play centre back?
