AC Milan are set to complete the signing of Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli on Tuesday, pending the completion of a medical.
The ex-Inter forward left the Rossoneri last summer and moved to Merseyside where he endured a disappointing debut season, making just 16 Premier League appearances and scoring only once.
A deal to bring him back to Milan will be completed on Tuesday after he undergoes a medical at the club’s headquarters, with the player spending Monday in Brescia accompanied by his family.
Liverpool have agreed to let Balotelli leave on a season-long loan worth €2.25 million, but without an option to buy. The Reds have also agreed to pay half of his wages during the duration of his loan at San Siro.
If everything is completed in the anticipated time, Balotelli will likely be part of Sinisa Mihajlovic’s squad for their game against Empoli this weekend.
The 25-year-old scored 26 goals in 43 appearances during his previous spell with the Rossoneri, who he joined from Manchester City in January 2013.
Former AC Milan player Zvonimir Boban has heavily criticised his old club’s decision to sign striker Mario Balotelli from Liverpool.
The 25-year-old is likely to undergo a medical at the Rossoneri on Tuesday, ahead of sealing a return to the club who he left last summer.
“It is absurd,” Boban said, when speaking on Sky Sport Italia about the matter.
“A return is totally absurd and is nonsense. I wish him well but things have never really taken off for him.
“If he comes back to Milan, I repeat it again, it is absurd.”
The outspoken pundit has previously been critical of Balotelli, and the two were involved in a heated argument live on television in 2014 after a game between Roma and Milan.
“Let’s stop talking about him as he has never done anything,” Boban said after that encounter. “He will go along the same path he always has.
“His performance against Roma was shameful as he just walked around the pitch annoying all of his teammates.”
Balotelli himself has met Diavolo coach Sinisa Mihajlovic and promised him that he has turned over a new leaf, in the wake of his father’s death.
The thing with Mario is that he has the talent to be a top class forward but he just doesn't have the discipline or desire to fulfil his potential. Yet again it's another deal for an italian player we lose money on. We should steer clear of Italian players all together.
As for Borini he seems to be suffering from Nicholas Bendtner syndrome.
Sold it to us for 16m and then take him back a year later on loan where we'll cover 50% of his wages
