A fifth place club can only expect bang average or unearth a potential superstar, with our committee it will be the former.

Mario Balotelli posted a picture of himself with a thermometer on his Instagram account to try to prove to his critics that he was too ill to play in Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn Rovers.

Robbie Savage was among those to question the Italian striker’s absence for the Ewood Park game, which Liverpool won 1-0 thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s winner.

Balotelli responded in typically idiosyncratic fashion, taking to social media to post a picture of himself holding a thermometer with a reading of 38.7C. A normal temperature is considered to be 37C.

Balotelli wrote: “@phil.coutinho magic boy! Grande! Nothing stop me to watch my team winning. (at least this time you know the real reason why I am out). MISS THE PICTH SO MUCH.”

Earlier the BT Sport pundit Savage tore into the £16m forward after Brendan Rodgers revealed Balotelli had travelled to Ewood Park but would not be in the squad after waking up feeling unwell.

Savage, a former Blackburn player, said: “Pathetic isn’t it? You’re going to miss an FA Cup quarter-final? “I don’t know how unwell he is, but to miss an FA Cup quarter-final when you’re feeling a bit ill? Nonsense. I would have to be really, really ill to miss that game.”

Balotelli also withdrew from the Liverpool squad which got thrashed at Arsenal on Saturday, after suffering a ‘slight knock’ in training.

I feel I should post this here too, in case anyone has forgotten:

It was revealed by then Sunderland manager Roy Keane in his 2014 autobiography, that he had been given permission by Blackburn to sign Savage during the end of his time at Blackburn; however he was put off by Savage's "wazzupp" voicemail, with Keane describing his thoughts after hearing this as "I can't be ****ing signing that".
That rug really tied the room together.

Kudos to LFC for sanctioning this £16million signing of Balotelli .....utter waste of money

One thing I can't understand is we were all waiting for Sturridge to get back so we could play two up top , which should of benefitted him and Mario and cant seem to recall it happening in one game from the start ,

when we played away against Spurs , we all couldn't wait for it to happen again ,

I think we are all agreeing that in the summer if Mario , Borini and Lambert are moved on , don't think any of us would be too bothered ,

Just hope that the recruitment is better than last summer when we had the lure of Champions league !

Add Johnson and Toure to that list and we have the first 5 exits I hope.

                      Plus Aspas, Coates and Alberto?
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Yep. Then we'll probably sell $terling.

Sorry Bender but that's a little bit offensive; contrary to Tory propaganda most people on benefits have to jump through a ridiculous amount of hoops to get their pittance a week they then have to struggle to live on, whether they are actually too sick to work or just unable to get a job. Whether he has been malingering or not there is absolutely no comparison with a spoilt man child who gets paid £80k a week to kick a football and doesn't even do that very well.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                              Mine angry and defrauded young?
