Seen a lot of comments, particularly on Facebook about how **** our club is because of this, saying we always end up with 3rd/4th choice.

The same people would complain if we didn't target quality players, truth is we aren't a very big drawer compared to United/Chelsea/City even Arsenal.

Should we lower our standard of target to appease people and stop us getting rejected? Its ****ing stupid, United wanted him and we can offer nothing they can't aside from more game time.

Also the talk of dragging our feet.. WHAT? Its May! We've scouted him, put in a lot of ground in the hope of turning his head our way, one of the best young talents in Europe and he's decided to go to a bigger ****ing club to a manger he's worked with and who has a very big reputation in world football, especially when it comes to developing young players.

If we act quicker, it won't mean he wants to come, he's well aware of interest from other clubs and Untied would have been made aware by his agent of any deal in progress.

You would have to think that a household name (in football terms) would be an attraction if that name had a track record of winning silverware and of players under him going on to becoming household names in their own right.

But regardless of whether we have a name manager or not, I would still hope that our club would continue to try for as good a player as possible each time and if we lose out to a club that currently can offer more than we can, then so be it.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

All in all, I understand why we lose out to Depay, but everything points to us putting the deal on hold to focus on a striker and I don't think that was a good move, and not something you do when you are hiring someone. "Would you mind if we put you hold for a few weeks while we go hire some other people?".......

I think coaches play a big part for sure, some coaches are more experinced, better or play in certain way - so it's likely a factor.

We have about as much clout as Spurs these days. Remember when they were in for all sorts of players only to lose out to bigger clubs? That's us, that is.

I'm not sure everything points to that at all, in fact I've only seen one post on twitter that points to that.

At the end of the day, United wanted him and they were always going to get him.

I'm happier the club are targeting players like Depay or Sanchez, we may have slim hopes of getting them but it shows ambition. Ambition isn't paying what we can't afford, that's stupidity and it seems some fans want that.. The same fans would then cry about nearly going bust (H&G)

I think Rafa and Klopp would encounter problems generally about the same if they were in charge. Certainly Rafa had firsthand experience of our methods in the past.
I think there would be some difference especially in terms of attracting players from Germany (for Klopp) and Spain (for Rafa).

The problem we have is that we dont have any heavy hitters in our coaching setup and management. FSG had the right idea with a heavy hitter like Van Gaal as the DOF and Brendan as the manager. I hope they go back to that formula.

That post was a pretty credible journalist tbf. I'm also happy we are targeting said players, but we need to change something, IMO it's act quicker and offer better wages to the top players.

It's great that we are after these players but in reality we are never going to get them. IMO the fans just need to lower their expectations on who we are going to sign. Don't get me wrong I'd love for us to sign likes of Depay, Lacazette, Benzema, Reus etc but we just don't have the draw anymore.

There are still quality players out their & hidden gems... players that are not just big names but actually fit the style we want to play (whatever that is!!). The transfer committee does seem a bit of a shambles but we they want to stand any chance of getting back into the mix and realistically competing for the big boys... they will have to seriously get the finger out in the next few transfer windows. We've simply wasted so much money on players that aren't providing any production for the team.

Someone was telling me Depay has the same record as Kuyt did.
