I agree that I dont think we would be able to land all of our transfer targets even if Rafa or Klopp was at the helm, but I think the success rate would be higher.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostOh naturally, but if Rafa wanted to move for the big Spanish thing or Klopp for the hot German talent, we'd probably still encounter transfer issues along the same line as any not-quite-top team would..................I mean, it's not like we're hoovering up top British players (if there even are any) under Brendan.
We can pay top dollar for the crap leftover, regardless of nationality.......that's never in doubt.
Rafa managed to convince Alonso and Torres to come here. I think if we had the cash we could have had Dani Alves too. Currently it appears we are competing with Arsenal for Illaramendi. With Rafa at the helm, I would be more confident of landing him.
Same with Klopp for German players.
As for British players and Brendan. It is not just about the nationality. It is also about the track record. As promising as a coach Brendan is, he really does not have anything in his CV to convince a player who is wanted by multiple other clubs to come here.

Absolutely. Having the dough doesn't make you a big club. It's a lot more complicated than that.Originally posted by Plod View Post**** is with people calling them that at the mo?

4 of the 7 above us and that are richer than us are in the same league as us. We are rich in world terms but mere paupers compared to United and don't have sugar daddies like the other two. Arsenal we should be able to compete with but they have that thing called London. As I said in the other thread, United get £750m from Adidas, our entire club is worth £644m.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostWe're the 8th richest club in the world so I'm starting to find it hard to believe we can't afford to pay the wages but rather we won't.

**** me chaps, have we missed out on Messi?
2 weeks ago, to a man we were all shouting about "out and out" strikers and another defensive mid etc, no mention of a winger until we got linked to him by some journo. Since then it appears the world will now end because he signed for the Mancs.
If he was our number one target, Brendog will be sacked. I will be far more concerned if we lose out on strikers. Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

They signed Morata, Tevez and Llorrente for about 25 million. Vidal for 10 million. Pogba nothing. Pirlo nothing.
That is what I call being clever in the transfer market as opposed to giving Southampton close to £50m.
