Would you stand for it? I’m on the brink of telling him I never wanna hear from him again. Been mates for over 10 years, although not what you’d call best mates. These sort of arguments occur every so often and I can’t be doing with it. I’m starting to seriously hate him, borne mainly out of footballing differences.
Dude, life is too short to spend hours getting worked up and arguing with a mate.

You know you're right and just leave at that. Go home a smoke a fat one.....everything will seem OK after that

Depends on what he is like normally. I hope that you aren't friends with people who are stubborn morons in general. So assuming he is just one of the hideous sort of supporters who turn of their brains when it comes to football, I would just state that his ignorance and manner has offended you and just call the conversation off.

If he sends any insults back then he is **** and you should go through with the whole ex-mate plan.

Maybe but I was shaking with rage earlier and I seriously wanted to hurt him – which isn’t like me at all. Dunno what to do.

Absolutely spot-on – he seems to turn his brain off when it comes to anything football-related and turns from a funny, nice bloke into a complete and utter moron. It’s too late insofar as telling him I’m offended – I did that and we must’ve exchanged 40 emails. Mine have all been chock-full of obscenities but in an “emphasis” kinda way rather than abusive. Yet still, with him having seen all the facts for the first time in his sorry life, his stance remains the same.

shaggy - i think you have mentioned this guy before making similiar comments over hillsborough. He may think he is winding u up/using it a a sick joke to to "take the piss" without actually realising/understanding the seriousness of the situation - if so I'd call him a cnut and tell him you won't discuss footballing matters with him again until he has educated himself.

If he fully understands the seriousness of the situation and is relentless with the abuse - I'd just never speak to him again - just ignore him - don't tell him you going to or answer why if he asks - just completly **** him off, if any mutal friends ask why tell them exactly what has happened - he'll soon be ****ed off by everyone

TIME TO KOP THE TRUTH KELVIN
              Brian Reade

MEMO to Kelvin MacKenzie: If you're doing nothing at 5.15 tonight why not tune in to the Liverpool v Arsenal game on BBC1, where you will find 12,000 Kopites expressing what they think of your persistent campaign to rubbish the findings of Lord Justice Taylor's Report into the Hillsborough Disaster.

It will last a full six minutes. Or as long as 96 fans were left by police to die inside cages while an FA Cup tie played on in front of them in April 1989. But I don't need to remind you of the details, as you know them all. Even though you were 200 miles away at the time.

Because some anonymous Yorkshire copper who was ordered to deflect attention away from his force's culpability, span you a pack of lies, which you gladly published as The Truth, and which cost your newspaper dear.

Perhaps you still loathe yourself for being a submissive lackey who mouthed a false apology at Rupert Murdoch's behest or maybe you're too vain to accept hard evidence and let it go.

Either way you're still telling audiences, like the one in Newcastle last month, The Truth about Hillsborough was that Liverpool fans got tanked up, stampeded a gate, killed their own, and as they lay dying, pissed on them and stole their belongings.

I just hope the Kop's tribute to you evokes a fraction of the anger and pain your continued lies do to the many people still living with the harrowing consequences of British football's most tragic day.

But I don't think it will. Which, Mr Mackenzie, is the saddest Truth of all.

                Cheers mate.

I think I’m gonna **** the entire group off, to be honest.

They’re a particular group of mates who were all at college together years ago. I rarely see any of ‘em now but for weddings, stag dos etc. I’m the only Red amongst them, and pretty much all of them hate us as they grew up at a time when we won everything. They’re Manc fans, Derby fans, one Bluenose….and a few “nobody fans” who just follow football without having a team. But even those without a team hate us. The point I’m making is, despite all my protestations, every single one of ‘em, bar the Bluenose (credit to him) has waded in and stuck the boot in. I’d love to be able to say they’re only doing it to wind me up, but I’m pretty convinced they actually believe all this bile.

That's appalling behaviour from your mate Shaggy…he doesn't seem to understand anything about the situation.
Maybe speaking to him face to face with another, more educated Scum fan backing you up would be advisable?
That's the only thing I can think of. I admire you for even corresponding with him - I wouldn't be able to out of sheer anger.

He needs to appreciate that Hillsborough was more than a Liverpool tragedy, it was and is a tragedy for football in general and in the lives of a whole community. Club loyalties don't come into it.
Does he not go to the football?
To concerts? Has he never been in a crowd where a crush has developed?
How can he not understand and be such a callous prick?

That's when a calming fat one would help.

10 years is a **** load of time to know someone. To him I'm sure this is a game and to you it is serious and no matter how many times you tell him you are offended and you are taking his comments to heart, he will still think you are taking the piss (its the way mates can be) - you have known him 10 years after all and he probably thinks he has gone past the point of being able to upset you (everything should be taken tongue in cheek).

Just put it down to a bad day and never bring the subject up.

My boss at work believes a lot of what that Current Bun CNUT has said, but I know it is pointless having a debate with him because I know he won't change his mind. I simply never mention the subject. Apart from that he is a thoroughly decent chap.

Don't let this disagreement ruin your friendship - you'll end up regretting it.

It's easy for people to tell you to cut your mate out of your life, afterall, he's not their mate. As I said before life is too short to waste it arguing - there are more important things in the world.........such as getting in a fog

Are they people you'd see or speak to on a regular basis?

If so you're probably best having no contact with them for a week or two. Or maybe even longer.

If in that time they haven't understood the seriousness of the issue and offered some apology, or haven't at least tried to make some contact with you to find out why you're not speaking to them, then they're maybe not the kind of mates you'd want to hang around with anyway?

Unfortunately this is the one area where I find it hard to make any sort of compromise. Anyone who crosses the line and thinks this is suitable wind-up material, or won't admit their own ignorance when it is shown to them deserves anything they have coming to them.

                      Good luck with it though.

Mate, if only I knew. I’m still ****ing fuming about the whole thing.

He used to go to football a lot – barely goes at all now. He goes to a lot of gigs.

He, like most Mancs, has the blind-spot when it comes to Scousers or, more pertinently, hating us. I tried those angles, mentioned it had nothing to do with club allegiance, but there’s no getting through to him or the others. Their sheer hatred for all things LFC renders a mature discussion impossible.

As much as you/me/we love Liverpool IMO you shouldn't let it rule your life ie dictate who you socialise with.

In a perfect world everyone would support liverpool, but they don't and I guess that is what makes it a more interesting place to live. I have friends who support watford, arsenal, manure, cov and even the chavs. Most of them have a soft soft for liverpool through association with me, however, some just to piss me off will support the opposing side when we watch games together. I enjoy a bit of banter with them and then after the game has finished it is all forgotten.
