The Official 'Cat amongst the pigeons thread'

I know i'm probably on me own here - but I can't wait until Momo is back bossing the middle of the park (with Chabby pulling the strings again) and our captain move's back to his more productive right sided role which gives him the freedom to express himself.

Add a decent left midfielder - and that's an excellent midfield in anybody's book (only possibly lacking goals from the middle two).

Stevie has to stay in the middle imo.

I think we are in a minority but I agree mate. IMO we're a better side with a midfield of whoever/Alonso/Sissoko/Gerrard.

            Really?
It's all about opinions - and IMO - I'd rate his play around 6/7 since his return to the middle.

It did work pretty well with Gerrard on the right last season, and I think Rafa will put him back there when Momo is fit.

Of course the first time we lose or fail to score, there'll be uproar, and it'll be because Rafa and Stevie G hate each other and Stevie's leaving, etc, the usual.

I hope the overall form of the team is such that Momo can make a smooth and successful return and they can head off that kind of criticism.

For that to work, we need a "in the hole player" to fill that void, the big teams easily exploit the vacant space, and we have very little link up play from middle-to-front, until that is sorted (and it might be 4-1-4-1 that sorts it) we will always be vulnerable to quality players through the middle.

a midfield of kewell - xabi - momo - stevie. i'm one of those who thinks that stevie is not a central midfielder by nature ( unlike - sorry about some of these - viera, keane, scholes, kaka, souness). saying that stevie is wasted on the right wing is like saying ronaldinho is not a left winger so stick him in the middle. stevie is a powerful, athletic, skillfull, right-sided player who can power past full backs and deliver good crosses or cut inside and provide ammo to kuyt/crouch/etc... now if and when momo learns a bit about keeping the ball and not getting booked inthe first 15 mins we should be laughing all the way to no 19.

for a better rant about sg's central midfield deficiencies, see the thread from today's sunday independent (irish). sg has the pace and power to look formidable against poor opposition in the centre but he has never done it against - scum, chav or arse. even kaka ****ed him over in istanbul till didi came on. there is no reason why he has to be in the middle to do what he does best. imagine you're a left full back - how would you feel if you saw sg's name on the right wing against you?

I think Gerrard is better suited to the right and I want Momo back. However Stevie seems to have decided that even if nominally on the right he will move into the middle this season. It is down to him wether he is willing to do what needs to be done for the team.

I suspect that Rafa will use him in both positions at different points in the remainder of the season amyway.

I really like Momo, there isn't an another player who works as hard as he does BUT, and this is were I get shot down, he hasn't got anything else to his game except the hard work and tackling. He doesn't score, assist or pass particularly well. He breaks the game up but not much more. For the reds to move up another level we need all the midfield able to more than just one trick.

with any luck, the new dic cash will enable liverpool scienticians to create the stevie/momo hybrid we all crave.
