I can't wait for Momo to be back playing. Don't think for a second though that Gerrard is actually a better player at RM.

as a midfield destroyer. No he doesnt get forward..but no-one is better at breaking up opposition attacks. Gerrard as good as he is, has a tendancy to leave his defensive duties, and we are often subject to counter attacks when he is playing central. That doesnt happen with Momo.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostAt what exactly?
Good player don't get me wrong, but going forward he's a non factor.
Yes I realise his strengths, and in certain games he's effective, and there are times when playing Gerrard on the right with Sissoko in the side is tactically correct, Barcelona away being one example. But against the majority of the Premiership, which is mediocre, he's not needed.
And people who think that Gerrard's more effective on the right than in the middle are just clueless."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

think what you want...but the stats dont lie. He may look more rampaging when he plays in the middle....but he had his best season ever playing down the right last season.
Technically he doesnt "play" on the right anyway....he has a roaming role. Its just his defensive duties are on the right side of the midfield and his name on the team sheet is on the right. He still has the freedom to attack through the middle, and he doesnt have to worry about leaving a gaping hole through the middle of the park when he rampages forward."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

Maybe - just maybe - SG isn't the great centre mid that all you deluded souls think he is. Ever thought of that?Liverpool born and bred.

given that he was in the team that day i think he bears some responsibility...Originally posted by Sir Bob View Postyou can't blame SG for us being 3-0 down at half time.
I really don't see why SG should be pushed to the right wing so that Alonso & Momo can play in the middle. Both Momo & alonso are fine players but they aren't in gerrards class. Gerrard is far & away our best player. Half the time he's our only decent attacking threat & needs to play in a central position to maximise his ability. If that means dropping alonso so that Momo can protect the back 4, allowing SG to play higher up the pitch, then thats fine by me.
I think people get carried away with how good momo really is. He's a good player with bags of potential but no more than that. Going forward he's very limited. Alonso is a very good player and is a brilliant passer of the ball but for all that cannot hurt the opposition in the way SG can. In a perfect world I'd play a 3 -5 -2 formation allowing all 3 to play but in a 4 - 4 - 2 its SG in the middle every time.

Yep, clueless. Just like Rafa obviously is.Originally posted by Howard_lfc View PostClueless eh? Nice.
I'm not sure if Gerrard is more effective on the right or not. What I do think though is that it is a better option for the team. I think the Arsenal games showed how much we missed Sissoko in the middle.

Nobody is ‘deluded’ or ‘clueless’ – people just see the game differently.
In MY OPINION, Gerrard is probably a better central-midfielder generally speaking but in OUR TEAM he is more effective on the right and we are a much better balanced team with him on the right.
The point has already been raised but he is often devastating in the middle against the poorer sides. Unfortunately, against the top sides, he is rarely a force from central positions. In countless league games over the years against United, Chelsea and to a lesser extent Arsenal, he has been something of a shrinking violet.
Hence, when Momo is fit he returns to the right. Those of us who tend to think along those lines have the backing of the only man that matters – the gaffer. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Not on your own by any means. Many fans I know think teh same, as I do. Sissoko back in the middle and Gerrard on the right gives us our best shapeOriginally posted by Howard_lfc View PostI know i'm probably on me own here - but I can't wait until Momo is back bossing the middle of the park (with Chabby pulling the strings again) and our captain move's back to his more productive right sided role which gives him the freedom to express himself.
Add a decent left midfielder - and that's an excellent midfield in anybody's book (only possibly lacking goals from the middle two).

You could say all of that word for word about Makelele, but I bet he's the first name Mourinho puts on the team sheet.Originally posted by SteveMac View PostI really like Momo, there isn't an another player who works as hard as he does BUT, and this is were I get shot down, he hasn't got anything else to his game except the hard work and tackling. He doesn't score, assist or pass particularly well. He breaks the game up but not much more. For the reds to move up another level we need all the midfield able to more than just one trick.

The team might be better "balanced" with Gerrard on the right, whatever that means, but look at our results THIS season with him on the right and compare them to the results with him in the middle.
And forget the cup matches, I'm talking about the Premiership.
Delighted when momo is back, but he should have to earn his place.Originally posted by Gordon Brown
