Carragher the greatest CB in the last 20 years?

Just watching the game again and just watched the way he had Drogba in his pocket, I really really love the bloke. I remember about 5-6 years ago loads of people just thought he was a replaceable squad player, how did he get so good? I know he was playing out of position but he has to be the most improved player ever.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't really seen Hansen play exept on videos but I think Carra is a legend.

It's Carra's positioning it's spot on everytime, his distribution isn't the greatest. He seemed to be everywhere yesterday, I said Gerrard MOM but I would change it to Carra.

I dunno whether he was just being modest and self-deprecating, but Hansen reckons Carra is a better defender than he ever was.

In terms of blood & guts, 'thou-shalt-not-pass' steel, and a sheer love of defending, he is.

Hansen was obviously light years ahead of Carra as a pure footballer, though, and he had that uncanny knack of nicking the ball off people without going to ground.

Carra is our best CB in the last 16 years and to be fair Hyppia hasnt been bad either, if anyone can remember we were bloody awful at CB under Roy Evans, Sami changed all that.

I think Sami would have summat to say about that. For a spell of about two seasons, he was the best CB in the Prem and was a virtually impregnable rock.

True, if he was 5 years younger we´d be laughing.

Its an interesting debate as to who whould be classed the best CB between carra & sami.

If we was looking at their overall career i'd say sami just shades it as he is a much better passer of the ball & is more of a goal threat from corners than carra.

Aye, a good debate and a very close call. Such a pity they weren't at their peak at the same time.
