Charlton have signed Newcastle midfielder Amdy Faye and Liverpool defender Djimi Traore.

Faye, 29, has signed from Newcastle, while 26-year-old Traore has made the move from Liverpool, with Charlton paying £2m for each player.

"We're delighted to have made two quality signings, and they will both improve our first team squad," said Charlton coach Iain Dowie.

"We are also working very hard on several other signings."

Faye was signed for Newcastle by former boss Graeme Souness 19 months ago for a fee in the region of £2m.

But current Magpies boss Glenn Roeder revealed that with so many midfield players in his squad he was happy for Faye to sign for another Premiership club.

"He hasn't given me any problems whatsoever," Roeder told the Newcastle website.

"I just felt that with the midfielders we have at the club, it was best not to stand in his way with him being offered the chance of more regular football.

"He was at our game with Villarreal at the weekend, and before he went down to London I wished him all the best for when the transfer went through."

payments are 50 quid a week, meaning we should have the 2 mill about the same time as the stadium is finished

The worst signing GED made imo. The lad was so mistake prone it's unbelievable.
He made the odd good tackle here and there but overall nowhere close to LFC calibre.
To get 2£ m for him in todays market is laughable but ain't complaining cos it's money coming in to LFC.

Is it just me, or do LFc supporters not show Traroe enough respect? Despite his little foibles, he was a good defender, and made some jaw dropping interventions in the CL winning season.

I always supported him - he never whined about being left out of the team and never complained about getting enough first team oppurtunities - he always gave 100%, even though that didn't quite hit the mark sometimes.

I wish him well at Charlton and wherever he goes on from there.

i think you'll find that diao and cheyrou were ged's worst signings. despite being prone to some mistakes djimi, at least, contributed to success at the club. what the **** have those two idiots ever done?

                        good luck djimi.

Amen to that Bob. Closely followed by Diao, Cheyrou, Diomede, Xavier, Ferri and Kippe who I thought were all worse than Djimi for 550 grand.

Good luck Djimi! You added another dimension to the tension when watching Liverpool play.

Just a shame that there's more relief than sorrow at his departure.

As I said Kurt mate it is my opinion. The other two you mentioned are close as well, but I was never confident in Traore going 90 minutes without making a mistake.
His concentration level is not very good. One game springs to mind is the Charlton game at Anfield where he slipped unchallenged outside his 18 yard box and we conceded a goal.
As I said he is NOT LFC material. Good luck to him all the same.

ps: Can anyone drive him to London ?
