Fair enough. I guess it is always a grey area when you get into the morality of actions.

I agree with you that you can't hold a player in place with one arm. That isn' really the acusation that I would make, more that you can prevent an attacking player from moving as they would want. Should they be going for the ball then clearly that will affect the way they can make contact with it. Which is unfair. Maybe this was the wrog incident to pick on to use as a starting point but I do think the way the penalty area is refereed at set pieces needs to be looked at.

Would an indirect freekick have been a better decision? This was basically "obstruction" wasn't it?

          It could have been.

But I think because they went down he went for penalty.

As long as we win, I don't really care.
I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best, isn't very nice

Why are so many people taking the moral high ground on this? Lets question Rafas integrity whilst we are at it because he thought it was a pen.

Get real, the guy was ****in holding him and continued to do so - ok he went down a little easy but he was being held FFS!!!

Really pisses me off that we are making such a big issue out of this - he is not the first Liverpool player to go down easily and he certainly will not be the last.

It is to me a big deal because he was not being held. He did not try to play football, he dropped.
And one of the reasons I support and love LFC so much is that we are normally better then others when it comes to stuff like this ( Fowler ). And I would like to keep it that way.

I am all for playing the right way with attractive, free flowing football however in games like this, as long as that ball ends up in the back of the net more times for us than for them, thats good enough for me.

He did have his arm around him and the ref had no other choice.

But Steve could easily have ran past him and tried to play, but he did not.

why should he? if you wrap your arm around someone it is a foul. If he gets kicked should he try to stay on his feet?

I do not belive we are a team of saints or sinners, and I do not go along with the notion that we are "normally better than others when it comes to stuff like this". Give me more examples of 'Fowler sportsmanship' and I bet I can give you examples of our players 'falling over'.

What I saw was Gerrard deliberately bump his legs into the defenders legs, put his arm over his shoulder and drop like a stone. The defender was breaking the rules by having his hand out but that does not change what Gerrard did.

Also, the defender was doing a poor job of man marking Steve. He was on the wrong side of him and could not see the man and the ball at the same time. That is why he felt he had to have his arm out to track Steves movement.

This is very poor marking and Steve could ( should ) have just run past him and gotten on the inside of him and turned up free to go for goal had the ball gotten to him. Our captain did not seem to have any of that in mind, he simply decided: this sucker has got it all wrong, now lets fool him into giving away a penalty.

And to say it again: that is not what I want the captain of Liverpool FC to do or think.
Watch it again. The defender near as dammit had his arm wrapped around stevie in the end.
clear pen well done stevie. Proud he is the captain of liverpool fc.
