Did they make a bid though? I suspect they were asked to deny it and thought "Hmmm that'll impress our fans that we're ambitious enough to make a 12 million pound bid" so they didn't deny it.

Glen Roder admitted they were interested, some credible sources said 12m they were willing to fork out.

But newcastle would fork out 15 million for Bernard Diomede

I'm sure Spurs were interested aswell

Bellamy deserves at least another season.
I agree - i like bellamy as a footballer - hes a pain in the backside and is the only striker weve got that has pace and can beat a man. Unfortunately - i think there is something really good about all 3 strikers yet none of them are in the top drawer class.

How many titles did we win when Fowler and Owen were scoring lots of goals?

Sometimes I think its the easiest thing to say but I think we need strengthening in other areas as well as up front. I am not convinced that our problems will suddenly be solved by somebody that we think might score 20 league goals in a season. The last 2 "proven" goalscorers we bought were Cisse, and Morientes
If we look at the amount of games this season alone in which we have totally dominated yet failed to convert our chances, then its crystal clear that we need to get someone in who will stick them away, above all else.
Thats without going into all the sitters our current strike force have missed.
We've dropped points all over the place due to this, winning those geames that i mention is the difference between competing for the league, and competing for 3rd/4th yet again.
Regardless of what Chelski, Mancs or Arsenal have, we are set up to have the20 goal a season man up there to put our chances away.
If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long

He hasn't a good enough last touch and that is the most important thing in football. It doesn't matter how hard you work or quick you are if your last touch isn't good enough.

He missed a very easy pass to Kuyt who would have had an open net to score in. Even a pub player would have made that pass.

                    He isn't good enough.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

That`s harsh,if he played it too hard it bypassed Kuyt who should have slid in.If he played it too light the keeper would have scooped it.There was very little margin for error.

What is this "last touch" business? It sounds like another catch-all but empty phrase like "final ball".

                        Is it an Andy Gray-ism?
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

its ludicrous to think how many balls we hoof into the box during a game and we havent got a striker who can head the ball!

Barca will never make Eto'o available unless he says he will leave the club. It's the same if (for example ) Cappelo would say i hope Gerrard is available for 30m.

30-35 million?! Are you nuts?! I'd pay up to 20 million for him, not more. But I guess the clubs will put high prices on every player now that we have some money...

Spot on. There was nothing wrong with Bellamy's pass. It was almost the only pass on, given the position of the defender.

Kuyt was at fault. He should have been on the back post by the time the ball got to him. He hung back, inadvertently keeping the defender in between himself and the ball...... certainly not by choice, but because he was in two minds... Either because he as unsure whether Bellamy would pull the ball back or play it across the face of goal or because he was having another schizophrenic episode!

That is Kuyt's major fault....... unlike selfish players, and I use that term loosely, such as Owen or Fowler he is always looking to offer himself up as an option for a team mate.

An out and out striker would have gunned it for the far post, looking for the tap in. A midfielder would look for a pullback, because they instinctively try to move to positions where they have space and options.

Kuyts tendency to be involved in team play means that sometimes he thinks more like a midfielder than a striker.

I think that he needs to keep doing what he is doing when he is 30 yards from goal…. But when we have the ball 25 yards out he has to be a little more focused on getting into “tapin” positions
