"Sniffed him out" from Auxerre as an 18 year old, and I'm fairly sure Sissoko was known as a striker at the time. Didn't Rafa convert him into a midfielder? Also played him at right back a few times.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Sissoko as a striker, tell you what, you would have never have guessed it looking at him now.

yes origonally a striker until used in a practice match one day at valencia, never looked back (or foward) since

doesnt mean a whole lot though tbh, where players play as youngsters doesnt always transfer to where they play as seniors

Sissoko started his professional career in 2002 with AJ Auxerre in France, but failed to establish himself in the first team. After just one season, at the age of eighteen, he moved to Valencia CF in Spain. At this time Sissoko was considered a striker, but his new manager Rafael Benitez saw the potential for him to be converted into an energetic midfielder — the position he is now famous for playing.

no wonder he couldnt get in the first team as a striker!!!

              Cisse?
              Sissoko?
              Cisse?

He must have been a poor striker. About the only thing he isn't very good at is shooting.

didnt sissoko score a bucketload of goals at youth level for Auxerre?

im sure i read that somewhere.

Sissoko was played as a striker because of the amount of goals he was getting at youth level.

That's surprising - he's starting to look like a potential Rob Jones...

Momo - all the attributes, painfully unable to get a Goal. His run against Haifa late on was brilliant, the position perfect, the finish awful.
