Never played CM, but Ashley Cole is quicker, positionally better, stronger in the tackle.Originally posted by Bellamy34Cole is so over-rated it's untrue, usually by the championship manager know-alls.
I'd rather have Riise.
Riiise scores more goals
what does Riise offer that cole doesnt?_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?

Is there anywhere where we can see last seasons stats for both players?Originally posted by red gapart from goals? mentioned that before. Riise has scored 25 goals for us in 175 games good return!
ashley Cole has 8 in 156 gamresBill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Well to a degree yes, but it also proves that Cole is injury prone.Originally posted by Charlie_BCole hardly played last year, so those stats would be faily useless I'd imagineBill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

Attacking wise: Riise wins
Defending wise: Cole wins
Even with the 'defensively suspect' left-back, we have one of the best back four in the continent. Having Cole instead will improve our defence but only marginally. However, having Riise as our left back improves our attacking options significantly as shown by the above statistic.
Conclusion: I prefer John Arne Riise."In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. If there’s no finance secured by the opening day of the season, I’m going to hang up my keyboard and close KOPTALK down."

Pleasantly surprised at JAR's scoring and assists record - are they defo accurate? In saying that he played a lot of games at LM so probably not too fair to compare like for like - I certainly would have thought Cole's return was better than that thoughOriginally posted by rebel23just had a quick look at espn profiles going back to the 2001/02 season

there is no doubt in my mind who's better !At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

Cole is a much better defender, while Riise is a far greater attacking threat.Originally posted by rebel23just had a quick look at espn profiles going back to the 2001/02 season

People go on about Cole's attacking qualities - well, I don't recall him either scoring or directly setting up too many goals over the years. Yes he's quick, and offers a decent outlet (especially on the overlap) but his end product is poor and I think that aspect of his game is way overrated.
I'd laugh if Chelsea spent £24m on him. He won't improve them that much. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
