I would love him at Liverpool
I honestly think that Evra is the better modern fullback - he is decent at the traditional defensive skills but like Ashley Cole he pushes the opposition winger back by offering a large threat going forwards while having the pace to get back if necissary. His crossing is better than Heinze's.

I think Heinze is the better defender but the Man United setup is designed on attack being the best form of defence and Evra suits that system better IMO.

Evra has been quite impressive this season. If the vote is based on the whole of 2006 then I think it's probably hard to justify his inclusion in the PFA team. Then again, the PFA awards (like the sportswriters') are undoubtedly completely sh1te - footballers might reasonably take an interest in and value them but the rest of us would probably be better off ignoring the whole thing.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Most Mancs (those that go to the game) would say Evra had a poor first half season for them after he signed in January 2006 and only really started to show his talent from the start of the 2006/07 season. Therefore the votes must have been based on his performances between August and December 2006.

For what it's worth, I agree with Shaggy: nearly all the people I know who are Man U season ticket holders would much rather have Heinze (as I would) than Evra...

Yes but who is the electorate? Answer: professional footballers - not, it seems, always the most thoughtful people in the world. So you're probably right about them basing it just on the end of the year but that's why I don't think we should pay attention to this self-congratulatory, industry shindig.

Heinze was excellent but I'm not sure he's back to his best, at least not yet. I think dww's analysis is spot on and given how Man United have performed this season with Evra at left back it's not credible to say (as others have, not you) that he's been a weak link.

There are some decent Mancs but most of the ones I "live by and drink with" are complete knobheads. Mind you, I know plenty of Liverpool fans you could say the same about!

the mancs really stuffed the ballot box on this one

What i find funny is that Chelski could win the title this year yet only one player from them (Drogba) has been named in the "Team of the Year" baffling

I agree but there are about 600 Premiership players eligible to vote in the PFA awards so I can't see how it could be fixed. Presumably at the time they voted (beginning of 2007) the Mancs were having a purple patch.

The PFA team is always a poor reflection for 2 reasons. Firstly, its voted for so early, secondly players only see other teams when they play against them and therefore go off MOTD highlights and Sky games.

Mind you people on here, myself included, are often no better. We all say player x is ****e or brilliant, after having watched them a couple of times on the box. The only players you can really comment on are LFC's as I watch them nealry every game, either live or on the box.
