Out of those, we've managed a draw twice .

I think 1-0 away is about as good as we could realistically hope for. Lets face it, they could have finished us off tonight. They are 12 points ahead of us in the league with a game in hand because they are better than us. I think people were getting carried away before the game, ignoring the basic facts of how good we are in comparison to them.

We've given ourselves a chance for the 2nd leg. It won't be easy buts its possible. If we get an early goal the crowd will be like a 12th man, will Chelsea have the steel to stand upto it. I can't wait to find out.

Still, I do believe we can do it and turn it around in the home leg.

Long-term, our inability to threaten goal away from home against the top sides is a major problem and it will undermine our title hopes year on year if the situation isn't sorted out.
Unfortunatley we do not have what the other three have which (as i have said umpteen times before) is genuine pace with quality up front and wide. We have not been any use Counter attack wise (bellamy excepted in certain games Wigan away maybe) since Owen left. Cisse should have fixed it but he lacked the composure and quality, Baros too could have but he had no awareness.
Look at the other three, Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney even feckin Saha, all quick.
        Henry greased lightning
Drogba, Robben, SWP, Cole all quick.

We have been searching for this since Owen went and until we somehow grow it or buy it we will never be a threat away from home against quality opposition who can defend and hold the ball.

The truth is away from home against the other top sides we aren't good enough to break them down. before tonight we've played the other top 3 teams in England away from home, lost 3 times, conceded 5 and scored none.

we only have 1 player who has the ability to consistently cause the top teams problems and thats SG. Our other top players, are defensive players, Reina, Carra, finnan & now Mascherano. players like Kuyt, Bellamy, Zenden aren't good enough. Kuyt & Zenden didn't play poorly tonight, thats their level, thats how good they are, good but no more than that. We have Kuyt, they have Drogba, thats the difference. We can't handle Drogba, they can deal with Kuyt.

All's not lost, we can turn it around. It won't be easy, we will have to play at our very best whilst they will have to be below par slightly. they are favourites but we are still in with a shout.

Tonight confirmed what we already knew. That is SG apart we don't have enough really top class attacking players. Away from home against the other top English teams, we aren't a goal threat. In the summer Rafa will address that issue, lets hope he gets it right or next season will be all too similar to this.
Horribly accurate. However, we are Liverpool, they are the product of Russian criminality (more or less...I'm not feeling charitable at the mo). Bring it on - but Rafa, et all, are going to have to be spot on.

We've got it all to do at Anfield next week!

It's possible though, but one goal from them (which they look more than capable of doing) and the tie looks over.

We need to be more productive in the final third though or else we've no chance! Tonight we showed we can boss them possession wise, but we must be very wary of them on the break - like when they scored. In Drogba they have the ideal outlet for a counter attacking team and are a great danger next week when one goal from them will probably kill the tie.

Our defence must be tight and boss Drogba from the off, which will be tough, but it must be done if we want to go through to Athens. Then, our attacking game must also be bang on too, which again will be tough, with their more than capable defence.

I'd go with something like this for the return leg next week, and maybe spring a few surprise selections in there in the hope it comes off:

            ---------------Reina
            Finnan--Carragher--Agger--Riise
            ---------Mascherano
            ------Gerrard--Alonso
            Pennant--------------Gonzalez
            -----------Crouch

SUBS: Dudek, Hyypia, Arbeloa, Sissoko, Kuyt, Bellamy, Zenden.

We need Gerrard involved in the middle from the off, and also need pace out wide. Having Crouch up front on his own means that JP, MG and SG need to be in support at all times. Two wide men are there to stretch them with Gerrard looking to support regularly.

Crouch needs to be at his best for this game though.

Zenden was decent, compared to most of our players.
he is just the easy scapegoat.
