Alfonso Alves is a ridiculous goalscorer. I've only seen odd highlight clips, but his technique is excellent. It's always a bit hit and miss with prolific scorers from the Dutch leagues though. For every Van Nistelrooy, there's a Kezman. He certainly looks good though. Barca are being linked with him this week by various people but the price quoted is stupid, round about the £25m mark.

btw whoever wrote that article has obviously never seen Neri Cardozo play. He is never a striker. He is a left winger, a right winger and even maybe an attacking midfielder but a striker, never. If people are going to report about non-European based players they should atleast get it right. I saw him quite a lot at Boca earlier this season I've been very impressed with him. Amazing dribbling ability and fantastic long ranged shots that he pulls out of thin air is quite something. I can't see him ever coming to a team like Liverpool though. I'd like to see him in la liga in the next couple of seasons though. I love the guy, keep an ear out.

true. but if there is any striker in argentina that should be on this list it should be Palacio. i have hight expectations for him in the future...

Indeed. I saw that article claiming Eto'o is as good as available due to Barca's impending TWENTY FIVE MILLION POUND swoop for Alfie Alves.

I wouldn't necessarily look at goals to games ratios for players who play abroad,it's not always or hardly ever a dead cert.

I'm just saying that for example Owen,Klose and Toni would suit me.
There's plenty of goals there and options,Rafa loves his optiions plus if you blow all the cash on an Eto (For the price he's quoted here) and he gets injured or whatever,then it's all the eggs in ................

I'd love to see a Torres,Villa or Eto at Liverpool,been screaming out for a big name player for years,but for 30-40 million when some of the other guys on the list are available at a third of the price.

By the prices here I'd even take a Berbatov and Tevez for the same price as Villa alone FFS!!

I would aswell, but I'd definitely be after more quality than the first 3 mentioned. I think Rafa is looking to sign 2 strikers, and I don't really think we need any more than that. Kuyt has started to reproduce some of his earlier form IMO and Crouch certainly has a place in the squad next season so Berbatov and Tevez would compliment that front line very nicely, but that still means spending about £20 mill on each, which I believe is the kind of end of the market we should be looking at, at the very least. More utility signings and "possibilities", as Rafa might say, would only see our progress falter once more I reckon.

Apologies Will,it was 61 goals in two seasons.

Developing to one of the ace goalscorers in the German league, he scored 16 goals in 1995/96 and 17 goals in 1996/97. Looking in retrospect he scored 61 goals in 162 Bundesliga games. Dundee went as far as switching nationality to Germany, but was however never used by the national team.

He was a 16/17 a season merchant when I lived in Germany in the mid 90's, IIRC

It seems we are all very conscious of price at the moment, as we should be, of course. But I can't help but think that we are simply not used to these figures being knocked about before our summer transfer dealings and we are getting more and more apprehensive about throwing stupid money at clubs for players. Rafa has got more sense than that, "for sure", and I think this summer is when he'll see his plans click firmly into place for the first time since his arrival, without us getting fleeced.

Whatever happens, this will be the most exciting summer we've had in years and years

Exactly. Thing is though, from watching him, he looks like the sort of player who we could be looking at in a few years going "why the **** did we mess around with Eto'o when we could have had this guy".
