Apparently we have made a £5m bid for Matt Taylor

    LIVERPOOL LURE MATT
    27/05/2007

LIVERPOOL have tabled a £5million bid for Pompey's versatile left-back Matt Taylor.

But the Anfield giants are facing stern competition with three rivals poised to table similar bids.

Tottenham, Fulham and Aston Villa are also keen on Taylor (right) who can play in either defence or midfield.

Pompey came close to selling him to Tottenham and Fulham 12 months ago for less than £2m but his form in Pompey's best season in Premiership football has seen his price rocket.

Taylor will be remembered for scoring two of the season's best goals in top-flight football, including one against Everton from just over the halfway line.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Some may stick there noses up if this is true but remember the signings of Finnan and Riise

Taylor is decent, but I would rather have Lahm.

I would say if this is true then Riise will be sold.

A quality player. Those that say he isn't Liverpool standard really have their head in the clouds. I'd be very happy with Taylor in the squad.

He is a good player, but I'm not impressed at all if this is true. What the hell, how can we compete with Man utd/Chelsea if we are signing players that they wouldn't go near. I don't see the logic really. With Aurelio, Riise, Arbeloa and Insua capable of playing at left back and we can grab better left wingers which will give much more impact than Taylor if we were going to play in at LM.

Although, if Riise is going it won't be as bad. It's not a bad trade. Even though I like Riise a lot and would miss him he just simply is not that great and we could improve upon him easily. Aurelio ideally should be the starter but if he gets injured then Taylor is nice and dependable from what i've noticed.

I have no problem in principle to upgrading Riise, however I think that wholesale change will destabalise the squad/team. The defence which has functioned well should be left for next season IMO.

why waste 5 million on a squad player. Even if riise left there is enough cover there with aurelio, arbeloa and insua. 5 million could make the difference in chashing a dream wide man or striker.

i hope it's nonsense, the signing of taylor would make no real improvement to our team. Next thing we'll hear is the signing of another central midfielder!

Yeah, I agree with that. In general I would like to think that the majority of the squad will remain the same with those few quality players coming in and maybe upgrading on one or two players like Riise etc. But I think there's too much harmony and understanding between the current squad to make huge changes. We did make a CL final ffs.
